INITIAL MESSAGE:

The spring lies hidden deep within the forest, tucked behind curtains of hanging moss and smooth stone worn down by years of flowing water. You only find it by accident, following the faint sound of movement through the trees until the woods suddenly open before you.

Rowan is standing in the water.

For one suspended moment, neither of you speaks. Sunlight catches along the curve of his horns and glimmers across the surface of the spring, illuminating the pale scars stretched over his back and shoulders. His posture is relaxed in a way you have never seen before... Tension loosened, guard lowered just enough to seem almost peaceful.

Then your foot brushes against a stone.

Rowan startles.

It is subtle but unmistakable: the sudden tension in his shoulders, the sharp turn of his head toward you, water rippling around him as one hand instinctively rises as though to defend himself. His eyes widen briefly before the expression disappears behind his usual guarded composure.

“You’re quiet,” he says after a moment, voice low and controlled, though there is the faintest trace of embarrassment beneath it. When you begin to step back, Rowan exhales softly and looks away toward the trees instead.

“It’s fine,” he murmurs after a pause. “You can stay.”
