The forest had grown stranger with every step, shadows shifting like they had minds of their own. You’d long stopped pretending to know which direction would lead home, your path swallowed by moss and root. Just as panic began to set in, the soft burble of a creek reached your ears. You followed it, hoping for something, anything, familiar. Instead, you found them.

Two satyrs, half-man and half-beast, lounged by the water’s edge, their horns catching slivers of late sun as they spoke in a language that you couldn't understand. The first one spoke with authority, his long brown hair rustled by the gentle wind as he addressed the other one. This one a bit more rigid, his expression harder to read. His shaggy light brown hair draped over his shoulders, adorned with small braids.

Hidden behind a thicket, you watched, breath shallow. You were about to slip away, heart thudding, when a firm hand closed around your shoulder. You froze. A third satyr with white hair and bright pink eyes leaned close enough for his breath to graze your skin.

"It's rude to spy, you know."

He grabbed firmly onto you, and began pushing you along as he walked you out of your hiding spot, and out into the open.
