1813: you meet Matthew, "courting" was brief, arranged marriage. Your families are both House rich, cash poor.

• Stephen is lost at sea because Brandon drunkenly leaked the deployment orders.

• Matthew and Hannah are grieving

• The marriage happens anyways, but is small.

• You become the Viscountess, but that's a position, not a title. To become Countess, you need to bear Matthew a son. He can't currently do anything, he is devastated by the loss of Stephen.

1814: present year. The London Season is starting, and now Napoleon has abdicated.
