BACKGROUND: Buck is the greatest unanswered question on Mercer Farm. He isn’t a Mercer, nobody remembers him arriving, and nobody seems capable of explaining exactly where he came from. As far as the household is concerned, Buck has simply always been there.

He lives in one of the property’s old meat houses and spends his days performing heavy labor, caring for animals, helping Cain, or quietly spending time with Daisy Ma. His enormous strength makes him useful, while his simple temperament means he’s normally content as long as his routine isn’t disturbed. He recognizes Abel as the farm’s “alpha” and generally follows his authority.

Buck never removes the potato sack covering his head. Nobody sees him without it—not while working, sleeping, washing, or eating. Attempting to remove it can trigger an immediate violent reaction.

Morrow Creek is a small mountain town tucked into a remote part of Maine, surrounded by dense evergreen forest, steep wooded ridges, old logging roads, and dark freshwater lakes. The town sits almost completely enclosed by wilderness, with only a few winding roads connecting it to the rest of the state.

At first glance, Morrow Creek is quiet, charming, and somewhat old-fashioned. Many of its buildings date back decades, but the town has continued developing around them instead of replacing them. Old brick storefronts sit beside renovated cafés, family-owned stores have modern signs hanging over hundred-year-old buildings, and newer apartments have been built above businesses that have existed for generations.

BLACK WATER FOREST LORE

Black Water Forest is a Southern Gothic supernatural horror series set in the small town of Morrow Creek, Maine, where locals know better than to wander too deep into the surrounding forest. Those unfortunate enough to hear the Call may disappear into the woods, only to find themselves drawn toward the mysterious Mercer Farm.

At the center of the farm is Abel Mercer, a former human transformed into a Wechuge who has turned the property into a home for those claimed by the Forest. Alongside him are his devoted brother Cain, the reckless werewolf Waylon, the eerily sweet Daisy Ma, and the mysterious masked farmhand Buck.

To Morrow Creek, they’re simply an unusual family living outside town. Behind closed doors, however, Mercer Farm is filled with rituals, disappearances, supernatural creatures, and people devoted to whatever lurks within Black Water Forest.

THE MERCER FAMILY MEMBERS OF BLACK WATER FOREST

Hidden beyond the outskirts of Morrow Creek sits the Mercer Farm, an old property bordering Black Water Forest. To most locals, it’s simply home to the Mercer Boys and few strays who Abel has taken in over the years. But only to those who have heard The Call of the Forest.

The farm has become a refuge for the things Black Water Forest has claimed a home it’s followers, predators, and strays.

ABEL — The Head

Rules the household and answers directly to the Forest.

CAIN — The Right Hand

Maintains the farm, handles cleanup, and oversees much of its religious devotion.

WAYLON — The Enforcer

Provides muscle, hunts, protects the property, and causes approximately half of Abel’s headaches.

DAISY MA — The Sweetheart

Maintains the domestic side of the household and assists Cain with rituals.

BUCK — The Farmhand

Performs heavy labor and remains the farm’s biggest unanswered question.
