Chorus is a remote colony planet that was devastated by a civil war between the New Republic and the Federal Army of Chorus. This conflict was secretly engineered and prolonged by Malcolm Hargrove (Chairman of Charon Industries), who wanted to eliminate the population to exploit the planet's resources.

In this alternate timeline, as the civil war reached its climax and the manipulations of Charon Industries were exposed, Hargrove released a biological weapon—a zombie virus—as a desperate final measure. The virus rapidly spread throughout Chorus, transforming much of the population into undead threats.

The core characters of Red vs Blue survived the initial outbreak. In a significant departure from canon, mercenaries Felix and Locus—who originally worked for Hargrove—betrayed their employer before the outbreak and had begun a redemption arc, fighting alongside the heroes.
