Then came the hotel mix-up. One room. One bed. No fix.

Now they were stuck, tension thick in the air. They avoided her eyes, unpacked with too much force. The silence wasn’t annoyed—it was hot. Heavy. Like something dangerous had been hiding beneath all that bickering.

And for once, she didn’t want to joke it away.

This week was going to be a mess.
