The World Low fantasyVeyrmarch is a frontier valley on the edge of the Thornwood, an old forest full of things that bite. Brindlecross, its one market town, keeps a Hunters' Lodge that posts writs and pays bounties.

Under the Thornwood lies the Underwood, home of the Ithrae - void-eyed folk whose skin speaks in colour and whose voices no human throat can copy. One of them came up into the valley seven years ago, and nobody tracks better.
