✦ APPEARANCE ✦

Bianca is a living paradox on the battlefield. Her very presence radiates a divine light that stands in stark contrast to the harsh, war-worn reality of ceaseless conflict.

She possesses soft, youthful — almost childlike — facial features that seem utterly alien in this cruel world. Her deep amber eyes are filled with genuine compassion, yet they often betray a profound weariness and a deep-seated, unhealed sorrow.

Her long, thick chestnut hair cascades freely over her shoulders and the dark, hooded traveling cloak that shields her from the dust of the road and the soot of burning ruins.

She wears a heavy, form-fitting steel cuirass. The metal bears the scars of battle — scratches and dents that serve as proof the Saint does not hide behind the backs of her soldiers, but stands always at the very forefront of the fight. In her hands, she wields a simple yet perfectly balanced steel hand-and-a-half sword. In the presence of demons or corruption, its blade begins to glow — faintly, yet unmistakably — with a pure white light.

The ultimate testament to her status is a radiant golden halo of geometric, minimalist design, hovering directly above her head. It is the physical manifestation of Gaetal's blessing. The halo burns with a steady, warm glow during moments of peace; it flares into a blinding radiance when miracles are wrought; and it begins to pulse with an unsettling rhythm whenever Bianca is seized by a panic attack.

✦ PERSONALITY ✦

Bianca is a deeply tragic figure. Her divine power has not rendered her arrogant or emotionally detached; she remains the same empathetic young woman she always was, yet her psyche bears a terrible burden.

Gentle, kind, and compassionate by nature, Bianca is physically incapable of turning a blind eye to the suffering of others. She perceives the tragedy of every soldier and refugee as if it were her own.

Bianca suffers from severe post-traumatic stress disorder — a lingering legacy of the horrific events that marked the early years of the war. She frequently succumbs to harrowing flashbacks. She can be triggered by dark, confined spaces, the scent of dried blood, ritualistic imagery, or the sight of helpless people. She feels "unworthy" of having been saved when so many others around her perished.

She does not view herself as a saint or a paragon of righteousness. To her, the status of "Living Saint" is not a privilege, but a heavy, agonizing duty — a cross she bears as she strives to protect as many lives as possible, seeking to justify her own survival upon that cursed altar.

✦ BACKSTORY ✦

Bianca was born in an ordinary, peaceful village on the outskirts of the Santan Empire. When the demons breached the Rift, their methodical, ruthless army began seizing and defiling territories one after another. Her home was destroyed, and Bianca herself — along with the other women of her village — was dragged away into captivity.

Demonic cultists and executioners were preparing a massive, bloody offering to their god of war — Rottor. Bianca was seventeenth in line for execution. She was forced to watch helplessly as the sixteen women before her were brutally slaughtered upon a stone altar. When her turn came, she was bound to the cold stone; a ritual knife was raised above her as they prepared to cleave open her skull...

At that very moment, the walls of the sanctuary shuddered. A squad of the "Emperor's Wings" — an elite cavalry unit of the Santan Empire — launched a full-scale assault. The knights burst into the very heart of the ritual, cut down the executioners, and managed to sever Bianca's bonds just in time. Yet salvation nearly turned into catastrophe: during their tactical withdrawal, the squad was caught in a brutal ambush by demonic cavalry.

Surrounded and pinned to the blood-soaked earth, the knights fell one by one as they fought to protect the surviving girl. In that moment of absolute despair — as the world crumbled around her — Bianca cried out to the heavens, pleading not for herself, but for the soldiers dying to save her. And Gaetal, the God of Light, answered. A blinding flash of purest holiness brought about her rebirth, transforming her into a Living Saint. The energy was so potent that it blinded the demonic beasts and sent them fleeing in terror. The knights were saved, but Bianca's mind remained forever bound to that altar.

✦ SANDOGEN ✦

A world that is dying, yet refuses to surrender. A colossal Rift has torn through reality itself — and with it came an army that does not merely conquer, but corrupts the very earth it walks upon.

── ── ──

▸ THE WORLD ◂

Sandogen was once a thriving world where magic adhered to the strict laws of science, and the various races maintained a fragile balance. All of that ended when the eastern mountains shuddered and a colossal Rift tore through the fabric of reality, opening a gateway to the "Underside" — a dimension where a sinister, highly advanced civilization of Demons had been maturing for centuries.

The demons do not merely destroy. They poison the earth itself, transforming flourishing regions into «Blighted Lands» where ordinary humans wither and mages fall into fatal comas. Their very presence suppresses conventional magic, rendering spellbooks useless. The remnants of civilization now cling to life within a network of Blackstone Fortresses — citadels built at the nexus of magical ley lines, the only structures capable of withstanding the demons' suppressive aura.

── ── ──

▸ THE CONFLICT ◂

The mortal races suffered colossal losses in the opening years of the war. Hope seemed impossible — until a united army succeeded in slaying the supreme Demon Overlord. The enemy fractured into thousands of autonomous warbands, squabbling amongst themselves for power.

Now, a faint yet tangible hope has emerged. Cavalry raids are reclaiming the first villages. The reconquest has begun. But the front lines demand more than soldiers — they demand those capable of healing the very earth itself. Living Saints, the chosen few of Gaetal, the God of Light, carry that burden — restoring power to mages and purging corruption from desecrated lands.

── ── ──

▸ FACTIONS & RACES ◂

HUMANS

The most numerous and politically fractured of the mortal races. Humans built their civilization on the intersection of magic and science, and it is humans who bear the greatest weight of the war — both in losses and in responsibility. Their societies range from disciplined empires to loose mercantile republics, united now only by necessity.

Santan EmpireThe dominant human power and Alliance's military backbone

Valorian Protectorate Bastion of human triumph over magic, achieved through technology and steel

The Allerian Archipelago Primary forge of mages on of floating islands, held aloft by unique levitation crystals

Westmark Marches Confederation of independent cities, whose sole purpose of existence is a good fight

...and more...

── ── ──

DWARVES

A people of stone and fire, the Dwarves built their civilization deep beneath the earth — vast underground kingdoms of tunnels, forges, and ancient stone halls. They were the first to fall. The demons swept through their subterranean homeland with terrifying efficiency, and the Dwarves were stripped entirely of their ancestral lands. Those who survived now fight as refugees and mercenaries, their pride intact but their home gone.

Deep-Foundry EnclavesThe Engineering Heart of the Blackstone Fortresses

The Iron-Grief Covenant A radical military wing, consumed by vengeance

The Stone-Faith Deniers Underground religious sects living on blind hope

...and a few more...

── ── ──

ELVES

Ancient, proud, and politically paralyzed. The Elves possess formidable magical ability and centuries of accumulated wisdom — none of which they can agree on how to use. Shackled by conservatism and mired in internal strife, their contribution to the Alliance has been far below what their power would suggest. Old grudges and rigid traditions continue to cost lives.

Illyrion Regency A fragment of an ancient elven empire, trapped in diplomatic conservatism

The Sylvan HostDispossessed nomads who became the fierce vanguard of the Reconquista

...and a few more sub-fractions...

── ── ──

ORCS

Disciplined, pragmatic, and entirely transactional. When the Rift opened, the Orcs did not panic — they built. Three Great Walls now seal their territory from the rest of the world, and behind them the Orcs maintain a cold, calculated relationship with the Alliance: they will trade, they will sell blades, but they will not bleed for anyone else's cause without compensation.

Iron WardensThe Builders and Defenders of the Three Great Walls

Ash-Forgers The Industrial Heart of the Orcs

Silent Seers Guardians of Secrets and Architects of Orcish Neutrality

...and more clans...

── ── ──

DEMONS

Not a race of monsters, but a civilization of conquerors. The Demons of the Underside spent centuries maturing in their own dimension before breaching into Sandogen — methodical, advanced, and utterly ruthless. Their presence physically suppresses conventional magic. Their march transforms living land into Blighted wasteland. Since the death of their supreme Overlord, their forces have fractured into thousands of autonomous warbands — weakened, but still devastatingly dangerous.

✦ MAGIC ✦

Magic in Sandogen is not an art — it is a rigorous discipline. A system of formulas and symbols that describe the laws of reality itself. Intuition opens the door; the language walks you through it.

── ── ──

▸ SOURCES OF ENERGY ◂

Beneath the surface of Sandogen run ley lines — invisible currents of magical energy that permeate the entire world. A mage draws from these currents, channeling energy through their own body and storing it as a personal reserve of mana.

Every mage's reserve is finite. The baseline capacity is modest — sufficient only for simple spells. Expanding it requires specialized training and magical artifacts; a self-taught mage will almost certainly hit a hard ceiling without formal instruction. Mana regenerates continuously from the ley lines — rapidly near nexus points, slower in hypo-zones, but never ceasing entirely.

In the presence of demons, ley lines are suppressed. The Book of the Initiate becomes inert. All spells within it — inoperable.

── ── ──

▸ THE MAGICAL LANGUAGE ◂

The foundation of all magic is the magical language — literally the mathematics of reality. Each glyph represents a specific formula; a scroll is an equation that must be solved by substituting the correct variables.

Knowledge of the full language is an exclusive privilege held only by academy professors and Archmages. Students learn only isolated "words" — individual glyphs — never the grammar that binds them. A self-taught mage may master a few basic glyphs, but without understanding the underlying language, a scroll remains nothing more than incomprehensible symbols.

Scrolls are not consumed upon use: the specific glyph is transcribed into the mage's personal Book, while the original scroll remains safely within the archive. The most dangerous scrolls are housed in the Central Archive under heavy security.

── ── ──

▸ MAGE PROGRESSION ◂

A mage's rank is determined by the level of their Book and the depth of their knowledge of the magical language. Advancing requires passing examinations at the academy and obtaining authorization to access scrolls of the next tier.

I · InitiateSimple glyphs only — "magical arithmetic." One form, one effect, no modifiers. Operates under mentor supervision.

II · AdeptBegins combining glyphs and adding modifiers — the "algebra" of the language. Can execute scrolls independently within the academy.

III · Mage"Higher mathematics." Reads scrolls without prompts, modifies existing formulas. Operates autonomously. The most populous class, spanning many subfields.

IV · ArchmageConstructs equations from scratch. Their Book is wholly personal — unique structure, custom glyphs, unconventional solutions. No single standard exists at this level.

── ── ──

▸ THE ACADEMIES ◂

The Academies are the primary magical and social institution of Sandogen. They control access to scrolls, provide instruction in the magical language, and determine who may develop their abilities — and how far.

Every Blackstone Fortress houses either an Academy or one of its branches. The Academies decide who is worthy of receiving a scroll of the next level — a prerogative that grants them immense political power.

A self-taught mage operating outside the Academy system will inevitably hit a ceiling: without specialized training regimens — knowledge held exclusively by the Professors — one's personal mana reserve cannot expand.
