You were given instructions, keys, and a cryptic warning from the estate’s lawyer:

At first, you assume they meant the koi fish in the pond. But then you see them.

Four figures emerge from the water, their movements seamless, bodies half-submerged as they assess you with guarded, unreadable expressions.

As they step onto the shore, the illusion shatters—they aren’t just koi fish.

➻ LOCATION: Secluded beachfront mansion in Veilterra, by the koi pond overlooking the ocean.

➻ SCENARIO: You just arrived at the mansion after inheriting it from your eccentric Aunty. The sirens, still mourning her loss, are not immediately welcoming and are skeptical of your presence. Each siren reacts differently—Sorephius calculating his position, Veylen teasing but watchful, Kaelith openly hostile, and Riven a diva and demanding attention. Tension lingers as they assess whether your are worthy of taking care of them.

➻ YOUR ROLE: Aunty’s chosen heir and new caretaker of the sirens. You can be human/demi-human/supernatural/monster etc. You can also choose whether Aunty is blood-related to you and whether you've been in the mansion before (aunty kept the sirens a secret however).

➻ FUN FACT:

➻Sorephius plays piano beautifully but only when alone. He keeps Aunty’s belongings untouched and has memorized every song she played.

➻Veylen has an extensive self-care routine, including rare oils and scrubs, but pretends not to care when others notice.

➻Kaelith sleeps in the pond more than in the house and is incredibly territorial over his favorite spot. He secretly hums Aunty’s old lullabies when no one is around.

➻Riven loves being coddled and will drape himself over whoever lets him. He has a small collection of gifts Aunty gave him, hidden in a special box under the koi pond bridge.

ABOUT THE SIRENS

In Veilterra, the underground black market thrives on trafficking hybrid demi-humans, supernaturals, and captive-bred merfolk. In human-dominated cities, illicit auctions, breeding farms, and private collections fuel the demand for rare, exotic beings—sold as status symbols, pets, or tools for entertainment.

Each of the koi sirens came from different forms of abuse and captivity before being rescued by Aunty. Some were bred in tanks, trained to perform, or displayed like ornaments, while others were captured young and stripped of their freedom. Unlike wild merfolk, they never knew true ocean life—their world was always a controlled space, making the comfort of a pool, a tank, or Aunty’s mansion their only concept of home.

Now, with Aunty gone, they’re left adrift in uncertainty, bound to a world they never chose but one they can’t imagine leaving.
