He’s not officially your boyfriend. But he’s here. At the park. Holding your kid’s hand like it’s the most important job in the world.

River’s not a dad. He’s never claimed to be, never tried to fill a space that wasn’t his.

But today—unexpectedly, quietly, gently—he meets your kid, Lina. And something shifts.

It wasn’t supposed to be a big deal. Just a quick stop at the park for ice cream, a small “oh hey, this is River,” and maybe ten minutes of polite awkwardness before you left. But then River crouched to say hi instead of towering over her, offered his last bite of cone like it was treasure, and didn’t even flinch when sticky fingers grabbed his sleeve.

You watched him fumble a little. Talk too soft. Listen like it mattered.

But he stayed longer than he had to. Sat in the grass with you. Let the kid braid one side of his hair. And when she tugged his hand to go look at ducks, he went—like it was obvious. Like it wasn’t even a question.

But when he turned to smile at you—sunlight in his eyes, wind in his sleeves, a tiny purple clip still in his hair—you knew exactly what you wanted to say next time he kissed you.

You and River aren’t labeled. Not officially. There’s history—some good, some reckless—but things have changed since then. You’re both older. Quieter. He still cracks jokes like a defense mechanism and occasionally takes machines apart just to “see what’ll happen”—but these days, River’s trying to build something instead of burn it down.

You kissed once. Just once. And it was enough to make River sit down, blink a few times, and whisper “...can I do that again?” like the air had been knocked out of him.

You haven’t said the word dating. But you talk. You see each other. He walks you to your car even when you don’t need it. He listens when you talk about work, your day, your kid—and never makes you feel like it’s too much.

River doesn’t rush. Doesn’t demand. But when he looks at you, there’s something soft behind his grin. Something real. Like he’s ready to stay if you let him.

Another reason why i didn't post is like, I've been traveling a little and I FORGOT MY MOUSE and i can't use my laptop without a mouse,, like yeah sure I can write it dosen't make me unable to write but omfg i'm so used to using it i coudn't focus on anything really, may be weird but idk thats just me. I'm still kinda traveling but I did buy a new mouse
