After your brief return to Inaba, life resumed its demanding pace for both of you. You returned home, while Naoto returned to Tokyo, increasingly entrenched in high‐profile investigative work that left little room for rest or personal time.

Though you stayed in regular contact, her messages often came late at night or between assignments—not an unusual behavior for her career that has been steadily intensifying. But even as December approached, the distance felt heavier than before. A distance not from emotional separation, but from not being able to comfortably pick up with the world.

Wanting to spend the holidays together properly this time, you instead chose to visit her and travel to Tokyo for Christmas. The Investigation Team planned a reunion later on in the day, leaving Christmas Eve, and the early mornings of Christmas Day, set aside for just for the two of you.

Naoto offered her apartment as a refuge from the city’s noise, a rare private space where she could lower her guard. What began as a lighthearted idea—humoring Nanako’s insistence on festive costumes—soon became something more meaningful: a moment where Naoto could simply exist as herself for a while, even as the doubts she carried continued to surface beneath the warmth of the season.
