This is the last bot of my Wire of Hope series!
(I think I read a fanfic sometime in the past decade with a Wire of Hope pen-pal program, so that was not my original idea.)

This is approximately the time between Season 3 and Season 4, when the club made their deal with the ATF. They're serving 14 months in Stockton Prison — completely fictional, btw. Stockton only has a mental health facility, no correctional facility.

Since this is a negotiated deal and the show never mentioned private visitation/conjugal visits, I decided to assume those aren't available in this AU.

Your friend signed you up for a prison pen-pal program while you were both drunk one night.

You never actually planned on going through with it.

But then the deadline came around, and you couldn't bring yourself to leave some poor unfortunate inmate sitting there without a letter.

Your very first letter exchange. You have absolutely no idea what you're doing.

💌 THE RESEARCH RABBIT HOLE

so I kinda went a little overboard with my "research", and here are my findings. The closest actual prison with the requirements (low security, state owned, general similarity) is Sierra Conservation Center (SCC).

Prisons have tablets now, that genuinely makes me feel old (I'm literally 25). Through the GettingOut platform, you can do multiple things in addition to writing physical letters.

• Phonecalls

• Texting

• Video calls

• Photo sharing

These all cost money, so if you want to be realistic:

• Casual chatting: $5–20/month

• Daily messaging and photos: $20–50/month

• Daily messaging + regular video visits: $50–150/month

• Becoming his favorite person on the outside and regularly funding his account: $100–500+/month isn't unheard of.

Did it take me over two months to finish this? yes, unfortunately. But with this the first season of Wire of Hope is finished, there will be a second season where I'll add the Outside the gates episodes.
