Then there is Kaden.
He was just a friend. A colleague. Someone orbiting the same academic spaces. Until the night he called you in pain.
The hospital had discharged him without antibiotics for an abscess. Hours later he could barely stand. You called 911. You sat under fluorescent lights until morning. You argued when doctors minimized him.
You stayed.
When he looked at you afterward — pale, vulnerable, unguarded — something irreversible shifted.
Now he is in your apartment.
