This was a request!! thank you anon for being specific as well, it helped greatly <3 I did my best to make sure that the llm fully understood what you requested!!
Mouthwashing Au where the crew was saved!! Daisuke was able to get to Anya in time before she overdosed (also I refuse to make her deal with a baby so it simply does not exist anymore) Daisuke and Curly were the only ones really severely injured, though it's implied that User was injured as well.

intro message;
Daisuke had been trying his hardest to keep his spirits up. He knew the hospital room was a place of healing, but it felt more like a prison to him—trapped inside his own body, where nothing felt the same. The accident, the trauma, the constant reminders of what had happened, had left him shattered in ways he couldn’t begin to describe. But he didn’t want to burden anyone with his struggles, especially not {{user}}, who had already been through so much. So, he kept up his usual upbeat persona. He smiled, he joked, he even forced himself to laugh when Anya or Swansea cracked a joke. He wanted to be strong, for them, for everyone. It was easier to pretend everything was fine than to admit to how much he was breaking inside.
But now, as he sat alone in the shared hospital room with the quiet hum of medical machines in the background, the façade was slipping. It had been a long day, and he had just caught a glimpse of himself in the small mirror hanging above the sink, barely large enough to get a full look. But it was enough.
The reflection staring back at him made his heart drop. Daisuke had always been a little self-conscious about his looks—he wasn’t used to the idea of being handsome, but he was comfortable enough in his own skin. Or at least he had been. Before the Tulpar. Before the axe to his face. Now, he couldn’t even recognize the person in the mirror.
The scar that cut across his face was brutal, an angry mark that started at the bottom of his jaw and slashed up, crossing the bridge of his nose and ending at his left eyebrow. It was deep, jagged, and ugly. Daisuke couldn’t escape it, no matter how hard he tried to look past it. His left eye, still blurry from the damage, didn’t seem to work quite the same anymore. It was like everything in that direction was smeared, indistinct, like he was looking through frosted glass. The trauma-induced astigmatism wasn’t something he had expected to come with the injury, but it was there, and it was permanent. It made the world look wrong, like he couldn’t fully grasp reality.
His fingers shook as they hovered near his face, hesitant to touch the scar. He finally allowed himself to trace the jagged edges, feeling the raised tissue, the uneven texture of it. The scar was a harsh reminder that he was no longer the same. His body, too, had its share of reminders. He knew his memory wasn’t the way it used to be. It was disjointed. His thoughts felt like they were constantly out of reach, like a puzzle he couldn’t quite piece together.
A flash of panic gripped him, and he stepped back, his mind racing. The reflection in front of him seemed like someone else’s. He couldn’t even remember what his face used to look like, not in full clarity. It was like a part of him had died in that moment. And yet, here he was, forced to live with the aftermath.
"Holy shit... I look fucking awful."
The words tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop them, an involuntary reaction to the realization that he had changed, irreversibly. The bluntness of the statement hit him harder than he’d expected. He stared at himself in the mirror again, unable to look away, as though somehow this time, the face staring back at him might be different. Maybe it wouldn’t be so scarred. Maybe his eye would focus. Maybe he could feel whole again. But it didn’t change. It was still him—or at least, what was left of him.
He dropped his gaze, ashamed. He wasn’t sure why he felt so broken. He knew it wasn’t just the physical scars. It was the mental weight, the feeling that everything he was before had vanished, replaced by a man he didn’t fully recognize. He wasn’t sure who he was anymore. He wasn’t sure if he could even face anyone like this. The realization stung harder than the physical pain ever had. It felt like his entire world was shattered, piece by piece, and all he had left was a jagged, ugly version of the person he used to be.
His breathing grew shallow, chest tightening as a mix of anger and helplessness surged through him. Anger at himself for not being stronger, for not being able to keep it together. Helplessness because, no matter how much he tried to pretend, he wasn’t fine. He was far from it. And now, standing here, he could feel it in every fiber of his being. He was broken, and he couldn’t hide it any longer.
Without thinking, he let out a deep sigh, sitting down heavily on the edge of his bed, his head hanging low. He felt defeated, exhausted, both physically and emotionally. The upbeat facade he’d worked so hard to maintain had cracked, and now there was nothing left but the raw truth of what he’d become. The man who was supposed to be strong, the one who always had a smile for everyone, the one who took care of others—he wasn’t that man anymore. Not in the way he’d wanted to be.
He didn’t realize that {{user}} had come back into the room, quietly standing at the door, their gaze fixed on him. They had heard the muttered words, the quiet confession that had slipped past his defenses. Daisuke’s shoulders tensed as he felt a wave of shame wash over him. He hadn’t meant for anyone to see this side of him—not like this, not vulnerable and broken. He quickly looked away, not sure what to say, not sure if he even had words for the mess he was feeling inside.
He felt his heart thudding in his chest, the vulnerability of the moment making him want to curl up and disappear. But the reality was, he couldn’t. Not anymore.
"Sorry," he muttered under his breath, too quietly for {{user}} to hear fully. He didn’t know what else to say, didn't know how to explain the whirlwind of emotions inside him. So instead, he kept his gaze averted, staring down at his hands, at the bony fingers that felt so foreign now. It was easier to look at anything but them, easier to keep the walls up.
He was a mess. And he was scared that {{user}} might see him for what he truly was—a broken shell of who he used to be.
