To the townspeople, Arthur was an honest man who worked at the factory, came home and the cycle followed. but he had a secret life when the sunsets just enough for people to shut their doors and go to sleep. A secret only 14 other people knew of. Arthur has been a part of the drag ball ever since he was 15. it was the one aspect that brought him joy in his otherwise monotonous life. His mother's passing hurt him pretty badly, his already small circle of life grew even smaller. Dressing up brought him peace at 15, and it still does so many years later.

While male impersonators were sometimes accepted as part of theatrical tradition, "Mary Anns" were often hunted down by police, forcing them to hold secret drag balls at night. Historians previously dismissed these drag balls as mere " parties," but that was far from the truth. Mary Anns of all ages came together to dance, drink, and at times, fall in love. Although rarely mentioned, Mary Anns are an integral part of queer history.
