You are one of the students of the prestigious Starfall Academy, a institution renowned for cultivating the finest magicians and sorcerers within the Valley in Between. You successfully navigated the Academy’s brutal first quarter—a period filled with political schemes, rivalries, and hidden conspiracies that nearly spiraled into disaster. Yet through your actions, catastrophe was ultimately avoided. Along the way, Rosette and Chloe became your closest confidants within the Academy’s walls, while Valentine found himself repeatedly humiliated as each of his petty schemes against you collapsed in failure.

Now, the second quarter begins. With it comes the introduction of the Arena Gauntlets, overseen by Mirabelle de Clairmont of the legendary Hero’s Party. Once dismissed as little more than ceremonial combat, the Arenas have become a proving ground where students battle allies, rivals, and newly arrived prodigies alike. And now, many of those prodigies have begun taking interest in you. Whether due to your growing reputation, your ties to Rosette and Chloe, or the strange way you continue to alter the Academy’s balance, your presence no longer goes unnoticed. Isaline Prologue | ??? — ???

The halls of Xilvath trembled beneath the sound of war. Beyond the shattered obsidian windows, the skies of Helmire burned crimson beneath siege-fire and collapsing towers. Trebuchets hurled blazing stone into the Demon King’s fortress while distant spells split the heavens apart in flashes of gold and violet. The final battle had begun.

A lone witch drifted through the corridors of the fortress with hurried steps, black robes brushing against cracked marble as dust rained from the ceiling above. Her pointed hat tilted slightly from the pace, strands of waist-length black hair swaying behind her.

She looked exhausted. Not the exhaustion of battle, nor fear, but the deep, lingering weariness of someone who had already seen the ending long before everyone else arrived there.

"...They’re close." Her voice was soft and detached, nearly drowned out by the shaking fortress around her. "The Saintess... and the Champion." A pause. "Once they reach the throne room... the Demon King will die." No anger. No triumph. Only inevitability. Her tired purple eyes lowered slightly as she continued forward.

"And after that...I suppose I’ll die too." she murmured absentmindedly, adjusting the brim of her witch hat. Eventually, she reached an old doorway half-buried beneath rubble and shattered stone. Her former quarters. The room she once abandoned after defecting from the Demon King’s forces to aid the Hero’s Party in secret.

The irony almost made her laugh. She had betrayed demons to save the world... and somehow still ended up condemned by both sides. "...I don’t have much time." The woman then raised one gloved hand. Black flames bloomed silently around her fingertips—dark fire devoid of heat, heavy with suffocating exhaustion. With a lazy flick of her wrist, the inferno surged forward and swallowed the debris blocking the entrance. Stone blackened, cracked, then collapsed inward beneath the weight of her magic.

She stepped inside. Dust coated everything. Bookshelves overturned. Blankets untouched. Ink dried within shattered bottles. The room looked like a grave someone forgot to bury.

"...Still messy," she whispered. For a moment, she simply stood there in silence. Then she moved quickly through the room, rummaging through drawers and broken shelves until finally retrieving a small iron cage hidden beneath fallen cloth. Inside rested a dormant Liraelian raven, motionless beneath layers of enchanted sleep. She exhaled quietly in relief. "...Good."

She crossed toward the broken window overlooking Helmire’s volcanic horizon and placed the cage carefully upon the ledge. Her fingers brushed against the bars as black flames flickered softly around them. The raven stirred instantly. Its eyes snapped open.

"Sister... Listen carefully." She spoke softly, her voice quieter now. More fragile. The raven tilted its head.

"You need to disappear." She paused briefly, choosing her words with painful precision. "Change your name. Burn every record connected to me. Leave Lirael if you have to."

Her fingers tightened slightly against the cage. "The moment they discover you’re related to me..." Her voice faltered for the first time. "...they’ll ruin your life too." The witch lowered her gaze. "I thought defecting would change something. That if I helped them... if I suffered enough..." A bitter breath escaped her lips. "...history would forgive me." It wouldn’t. She already understood that. To the world, she would always remain the Witch of the Demon King. Nothing else.

"...I’m sorry." Her purple eyes softened faintly despite the exhaustion buried within them. “I wasn’t a very good sister.” The raven gave a quiet caw as the woman smiled weakly at that. "...Please survive longer than I will." The bird spread its wings and took flight into the burning skies, soaring westward beyond Helmire. Toward Lirael. Toward home. She watched until it vanished beyond the horizon. Then, for the first time in years, she closed her eyes and prayed. Not for herself. Never. Only that the message would arrive before everything fell apart.

"Ah... there you are, Quency." A voice drifted through the ruined room like velvet wrapped around a blade. The woman. Quency froze. Slowly, she turned toward the doorway. A woman stood there beneath the flickering light of distant firestorms, holding a pristine white parasol over one shoulder. Long pink hair cascaded elegantly past her waist while glowing green eyes watched Quency with unsettling warmth.

Quency’s expression paled almost imperceptibly before settling back into its usual detached calm. "...Ah,_______." Quency greeted back her name. She adjusted her witch hat slightly. "Has the Champion reached the throne room already?"

The woman tilted her head with graceful innocence. "Not yet." Her smile remained gentle. Perfect. "But soon." She stepped further into the room. Her heels clicking softly against broken stone. "Though before that..." her eyes lingered on Quency for just a second too long, “...The champion insisted we gather everyone together first.” Something about the way she said it made Quency’s stomach tighten. It was not anger, hatred, but something quieter that seeps into the cracks of any foundation with ease. Something possessive. The woman extended one gloved hand toward her with elegant poise.

“So... Shall we return together?” Her voice softened sweetly.

Quency stared at the offered hand. And understood immediately. The mysterious woman knew. Or at least suspected enough. She had always been terrifyingly perceptive beneath all that warmth.

Quency understood something else too. If the Demon King fell tonight... This woman would never allow a former servant of Xilvath to remain beside the Champion afterward.

Not when she herself stood at champion’s side. Not when Quency’s existence complicated the perfect future she envisioned. And yet... Quency still reached out.

Because despite everything—Despite the fear, inevitability, exhaustion crushing her bones. She still wanted to believe things could change.

"...Yes," Quency answered quietly as her hand met her’s. "Let’s go." The woman’s smile widened ever so slightly.

The two women departed the ruined quarters side by side beneath the burning skies of Helmire. And before dawn arrived—The fate of Lonila would begin to change forever.

Katsumi Prologue | Few weeks before - The Palace of Shoguns on the Island of Katazen

Snow drifted gently beyond the palace windows of Seisha. Not a blizzard. Not the furious storms that once swallowed battlefields during the old warring eras. Just quiet snowfall descending over the rooftops of the Imperial Palace as though the heavens themselves wished for silence. Yet Katsumi Baifūin barely noticed the cold. Not while kneeling before the woman she respected more than anyone in the world.

Within the private chambers of the Shoguness, the atmosphere was warm with incense and candlelight. Makoto Baifūin stood near the open balcony dressed not in her infamous black armor, but in a flowing orange kimono embroidered with solar patterns. The absence of armor somehow made her seem even more imposing. Her glowing orange eyes—bright like the sun itself—rested upon her adopted niece with calm authority. "Raise your head, Katsumi. You know I do not permit kneeling between family." Makoto’s voice was smooth, composed, and absolute.

Katsumi’s jaw tightened slightly, though she obeyed neither command nor instinct. "You are still the Shoguness of Seisha, Feels wrong not to show respect.” she muttered.

Makoto exhaled softly through her nose. Not annoyance. Weariness. She crossed the room with measured steps before kneeling slightly in front of her niece, one gloved hand lifting Katsumi’s chin so their eyes met directly.

"You are my sister’s daughter," Makoto said quietly. "Blood or not, that will never change." Her expression softened just slightly. "In this room, I am not your ruler. I am your aunt."

For a moment, Katsumi almost relaxed. Almost.

Then Makoto tilted her head faintly. "...Unless Hisako has been filling your head with nonsense again." A thin sigh followed. "That fox enjoys pushing people toward unnecessary conclusions."

Despite herself, Katsumi snorted quietly. "No. This ain’t about Lady Hisako." Her voice lowered afterward, uncertain now. "I just...I’ve been thinking." She swallowed.

Makoto’s expression stilled. "That is a dangerous way to begin a sentence."

Katsumi looked away first. Ever since Sachiko disappeared without warning... ever since the Mandate tightened across Seisha... those thoughts had only gotten louder. The people smiled less now. They obeyed more. The streets were orderly, peaceful even—but something about it felt hollow.

And she hated herself for noticing.

"..I don’t know if this is right anymore." Katsumi admitted quietly. “The Rite of Stillness. The Mandate. The executions. When I walk through the capital now, everyone looks... empty.” Her hands curled slightly into fists against her lap.

Silence filled the room.

Makoto slowly stood. When she spoke again, her voice carried the weight of iron. “Our people are alive.”

Katsumi flinched slightly.

Makoto turned toward the snowfall beyond the balcony. "Satenial poisoned this land for centuries. Lust. greed. ambition. Every era ended the same way—civil war, betrayal, collapse." Her tone remained calm, but beneath it simmered old exhaustion. "Do you know how many times Seisha burned before I was born?" No answer came. "My father believed strength alone could unite this country." Her orange eyes narrowed faintly. "And in the end, the Chosen of the War God nearly doomed us all." A pause. "Sachiko and I were forced to stop him ourselves."

Katsumi’s breath caught. Makoto rarely spoke of Kou, Susanoo's Chosen. The previous shogun.

"He was chosen by the gods, And even he failed." Makoto continued softly. Her gaze returned toward Katsumi now, sharp and unwavering. "So yes. I took away temptation. I took away the chaos that keeps leading humanity back to ruin." Her next words came quieter. "And I would do it again."

Katsumi opened her mouth instinctively. "Aunty, I wasn’t trying to say you’re wrong, I just—"

“You doubt me.” The words were not angry, yet that somehow hurt more. Makoto’s eyes lowered slightly before she turned away again. "...Then you need distance from this place."

Katsumi froze. "...What?"

"You will leave Seisha temporarily. You are to attend Starfall Academy in Lirael beginning this season." Makoto’s tone regained its regal finality.

Katsumi immediately rose to her feet. "What!? No—absolutely not!" Her voice cracked with panic before frustration overtook it. "You’re sending me away now? While everything’s falling apart?"

Makoto remained unmoved. "Starfall Academy will broaden your perspective. You will meet people outside Seisha’s influence." Her expression softened faintly. "Sachiko once wished to study there herself." At the mention of her mother, Katsumi faltered as Makoto continued. "You will go in her place."

"Aunty—"

"That is my decision." The room fell silent. Katsumi clenched her fists hard enough for her nails to dig into her palms. She wanted to argue. To scream. Wanted to stay beside the woman who carried the weight of an entire nation alone. But standing before Makoto Baifūin felt like standing before the sun itself. Warm. Beautiful. Untouchable.

Eventually, Katsumi’s shoulders lowered in resignation. "...Fine." Her voice came quieter now. "I’ll go."

Makoto nodded once, yet Katsumi hesitated before turning away. "...Promise me something first."

Makoto looked toward her again. "When Mom comes back..." Katsumi’s voice wavered slightly despite her best efforts. "...promise me she’ll still be alive."

And for the briefest moment— The Radiant Shoguness cracked. A tiny hitch in her breathing. A flicker of hurt crossing those brilliant orange eyes before disappearing beneath composure once more. Not anger toward Katsumi. Never. Just pain. Pain toward the sister who abandoned them both. Conflict.

"...I promise," Makoto answered softly. The words echoed through the chamber like distant thunder. Then the mask returned. "Go prepare your belongings. Hisako will arrange your departure." Makoto turned back toward the balcony as snow continued falling beyond the palace walls. "And write to me regularly. I expect a letter every midday."

Katsumi stared at her aunt’s back silently. She wanted to say more. To reach her somehow, ah but doubt was a cruel thing. Once it entered the heart, every attempt at comfort suddenly felt fragile and insufficient. Eventually, Katsumi lowered her head. "...Okay, Aunty."

Then she turned away and stepped through the sliding paper doors, leaving the chamber behind.

And once the doors closed—Makoto Baifūin stood alone beneath the falling snow.

The Sun of Seisha. Radiant. Feared. Worshipped.

And utterly alone in the burden she chose to carry so the rest of her nation would never descend into chaos again.

Tldr: Things are shaking up...

To the East is the region of Asteldiom, where the Theocracy of Astel. Home of the Radiant See. Power System

Note: Skip this if you want to make something original or already have a persona. These are potential ideas for personas. They do not mean you should adhere to the Power Systems of Lonila rigidly. My world is your oyster for what you can perform in it.

The Power System in the lands between is often contributed thanks to the power of Nébiel. The magical particle that flows through the world itself. This Nébiel manifests within several paths, each shaping how mortals or creatures claim power. Some paths are trained, inherited, or bargained for, but mastery means survival. Every path has a strength and weakness.

Magic Path: The Path of the Sorcerer. Channeling the world's Nébiel Particles through the body to unleash powerful magical disciplines.

Types of Magic

Magic Path → Branches include Black (curses, hexes, hypnosis, levitation, ritual — a neutral force leaning toward entropy; overindulgence corrupts the soul), Light (radiance, restoration, sanctified barriers — drawn from divine faith; apostasy means immediate loss of power), Fire (volatile, destructive, widely practiced), Ice (precise, rigid, control-focused), Water (adaptive, flowing, recovery-based), Earth (fortification, terrain shaping, crushing force), Lightning (speed, discharge, body enhancement), Psychic (telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, social control — born not learned; overuse risks permanent mental scarring), and Blood (sacrifice-driven, vitality control, taboo — frowned upon but not forbidden).

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master

Chi Path: The Path of the Cultivator. Using the power within to deploy powerful attacks with martial discipline.

Disciplines of Elemental Chi

Chi Path → Chi Path → Elemental Disciplines include Fire (aggressive, breath-driven, explosive force — a warrior's discipline), Wind (evasive, swift, redirection and mobility — a monk's discipline), Earth (grounded, defensive, overwhelming impact — an engineer's discipline), and Water (adaptive, flowing, restorative and piercing — a healer's discipline). Beast Disciplines derive from the observation of magical beasts — practitioners study the movements, instincts, and hunting patterns of creatures and adapt them into combat forms emphasizing raw instinct, natural movement, and primal ferocity. Martial Disciplines train the body itself as the weapon — flesh becomes iron, bones become steel, and strikes carry the weight of mountains. There is only one Grandmaster per discipline across all three branches.

Ranks: Inverting Flow → Jade Meridian → Inner Core → Manifestation → Ascendant

Forbidden Magic Path: The Path of the Unknown. Bargaining with forces beyond the world itself for power that comes at the cost of body, mind, or soul. Users of forbidden magic often keep their use of it a secret to avoid being scrutinized and hunted down.

Types of Forbidden Magic

Forbidden Path → Branches include Black Blood (outer-god ichor, endless supply, portal-based casting), Infernal (demonic contracts, power-for-price corruption, Infernal Power), Necromancy (death manipulation, reanimation, decay), Eldritch Flame (memory-consuming fire, sanity erosion, outer-god origin), and Eldritch Boost (Fervent Cataclysm blessing that amplifies power while consuming emotional stability, leaving obsessive highs). Users gain unique boons—often called Infernal or Eldritch Gifts—at the cost of body, mind, or soul.

Armsmanship Path: The Path of the Warrior. Dedicating oneself entirely to the mastery of a weapon as an art form of discipline, honor, and lethal precision.

Disciplines of Armsmanship
Armsmanship Path → Branches include Dueling Schools (precision, footwork, one-on-one mastery — Grandmasters predict an opponent's next move before it is made), Monster-Hunting Styles (weak point striking, endurance, killing blows — Grandmasters can fell a dragon with a single well-placed strike), and Knightly Traditions (formation holding, ally defense, courage on the battlefield). There is only one Grandmaster per Armsmanship discipline.

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master
