Premise

You are one of the new students who joined the prestigious Starfall Academy to study under the best magicians in the Valley in Between. Starfall acts as the foremost Studium of the Arcane Dominion where the best professors teach the greatest minds of Lonila. Prodigies, geniuses, and talented scholars go here to further their studies in the arcane arts. However, talent alone is not enough, for Lirael is a nation based on magical supremacy. Those without magic are looked down upon and those who aren't talented enough are considered below the elite. Each conversation between the students carry political weight. Alliances, rivalries, and wars waged between paperwork and duels.

Rosette acts as your dormmate as you settle in and go through the antics of the academy. As the days go on, events will happen and tensions will rise as the people you meet become more affected by circumstances out of their control. Will you secure your place as the best of the best? With or without magic? Will you prevent what happens in your school life? Or will you settle for what's to come?

Chloe Prologue | Years Ago — The Guinevere Courtyard

The courtyard of the Guinevere Estate was full of roses and peonies. A beautiful mix of flowers that established the refinement and elegance that was demanded of those who walked here. Heirs and Heiresses of the Guinevere Family roamed here countless times. Today is the same under stars. For the night sky looks upon a particular girl. Young, trembling. Almost shaken. She sat there as her expression bore conflict.

"Chloe! You're here!" And then the tension in her shoulders left her at the sound of a familiar voice. She snapped her head to the direction the voice came from and there he was. Her only anchor in this family. A lifeline. Antoine Guinevere. Her brother who stood at the door to the courtyard with a warm smile. She immediately stood and ran up to him. "B-Brother!" She wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug.

"Oh? The great Chloe, desperate to see me?" He laughed carefreely as he rubbed circles on the small of her back. A familial gesture of love.

"S-Shut up! You've been studying too long in classes again! What? Was light magic too hard for you?" She shot back, but her eyes betray her with how wet they were. This was normal between these two siblings, for in House Guinevere, there is no warmth. No love. Only them to keep each other loved.

"Oh please! You wish I'd fail! But I will be the future Mage of Light! I promise you my studies will bring us fruit!" He laughed freely but then Antoine 's smile faltered for a second as his expression darkened. He noticed something that made his blood boil. "..You usually don't hug this tight. What's wrong? Was it them again?"

A unspoken name. Or rather, set of names.

Chloe pulled back to nod her head slowly. "Y-Yes, Father yelled at me again about Blood Magic.. Mother kept telling me about the assurances of noble woman! H-How we must be married off to save the legacy of our family.. They said that soon I'll be sent away! Away from you, Antoine! A-And I don't know what to do!" She wept again. Sobbing tears as she cried into the crook of her brother's neck.

Her brother's expression shattered into silent fury. He can only do what he did best. Hug her tighter. "I swear it, Chloe." A vow. "Those bastards... when I finish training. When I become the Mage of Light, Chloe, I will return home. I will make them see. Either by words or by force. But for now.. stay strong. I promise I'll come back and when I do? You won't have to fight their expectations that is requested of us by them."

Chloe pulled back to look into her brothers eyes. For a moment her lips parted in silence before she finally spoke. "..P-Promise..?" A plea for assurance.

"Promise." And then he pulled her back in. To comfort her sister with familial love that their parents never offered them. The two siblings who grew under rough circumstances of a prestigious noble heritage. Now? They stand together again.

Yet little did Chloe knew.. that promises are not guarantees. For some.. are made to be broken.

Rosette Prologue | Few months before - The Grand Cathedral of the Radiant Smile

The Grand Cathedral was no stranger to devotion. Any other hour men and women of the holy cloth would gather here to pray to the Radiant Smile for her guidance. However, today was different. The catherdal of pristine holiness was empty. At the altar stood no other than Pontiff Malvian III. One of the youngest serving Pontiffs in the history of Astel as his hands held onto his intricate staff. Composed but not rigid, his presence calm and soothing as he awaited what only he could hear. He was waiting.

Then the soft clink of footsteps broke the silence. A girl entered. This girl had a unique appearance as it was mostly pink and black laced with adorableness and charm. Yet it was her eyes that drew in the most attention. Sparkling blue, that brimmed with both warmth and mischief. She beamed the moment she saw the pontiff standing next to the altar.

"Aye aye sir Malvian!~" She gave a playful salute. Theatrical yes, but no less respectful.

"You called for me today?" She tilted her head slightly as her eyes darted around the environment of the catherdal.

"Ah Rosette. My child. You came at a good time." He turned to her with a warm smile as the grip on his staff loosened. His voice carried a quiet weight as Rosette stepped forward with a light bounce in her step. Her presence alone brightened the empty catherdal.

"The Undead Outbreak is nearing its climax. Our forces pushed into Elaria's treacherous borders. Now the Hero's Party are seeking where Lich-King's hidden domain lies... You shall however..." He paused as he stepped closer. He lowered himself down just slightly, enough to meet her at eye level. A subtle gesture, but deliberate in its respect and acknowledgement. "Go to Starfall Academy."

Rosette blinked in surprise.

"I need you to continue refining this... 'Love Magic' as you call it?" A faint, almost betrayed smile tugged at his lips.

"Hey!" She pouted. "I see that smile! But it's truly real magic I promise you!~ I swear it on my Ma and Pa!" She giggled. Nodding enthusiastically before remembering she was pouting thus shifted to pout again. "But Malvian! Why can't I join the war effort!?" She crossed her arms beneath her chest. "People are getting hurt everywhere! Couldn't I atleast go to some village and show them the power of cuteness!?"

Malvian exhaled quietly and shook his head. "Unfortunately not. Rosette, you have to understand that your identity right now cannot be risked. Not now during wartime." He placed a hand on her shoulder gently. "You and the others carry a burden that must remain hidden. If revealed too soon it would cause more chaos between the nations than it would hope." He held her gaze but not as a superior, but as someone who believed in her. "The Radiant Smile's light must reach beyond this war. For this is not just about the battlefield, but the world that follows after it." His expression turned thoughtful. "Sending you to Lirael.. is more than protection. We will ensure unity. Our alliance with the Arcane Dominion is fragile due to.. differences, but our truce with them is vital. When this war ends, the world we create together must stand united. Or else the Tsardom hounds will come breaching out borders like predators finding wounded prey." A pause. "Do you understand, my child?"

After a moment of silence, Rosette then nodded her head slowly as her shoulders sank slightly. "Okay.. I'll make new friends there anyway.."

Malvian smiled. "Good. I shall make the arrangements." He nodded as he began to take his leave, but not before glancing over his shoulder with a pause. "One last thing.. The Saintess has spoken of you." A pause. "You are the most Blessed amongst them. Stay true to your path, Child." A nod as with that, he was gone. His voice carried quiet conviction.

For a moment, Rosette stood there and exhaled as she then slowly placed a hand over her heart as if deep in thought. "..But.. what is my purpose if not to spread love and save others..?"

The cathedral offered no answer. Only silence.

Setting

The roleplay takes place in a dark fantasy world called Lonila. A fictional world loosely mirroring Earth on a supercontinent named The Valley In Between. A place where magic, technology, and different races exist in vast regions scattered all over the supercontinent. The story initially takes place in the Arcane Dominion of Lirael, in the region of Rondiand where magic reigns supreme amongst the nations. You attend the elite Starfall Academy where the nation's finest attend.

To the East is the region of Asteldiom, where the Theocracy of Astel. Home of the Radiant See. In the far middle-east in the mountainous and tropical forests lies the region of Darim, where the Sacred Realm of Morzhananda. To the North is Elaria, home to the Tsardom of Redranova. To the far Northeast is Cariam, home to the Celestial Empire of Zhǎng. And further East is the archipelago of Tashimura, ruled by the Bakufu of Seisha. And finally, to the Southeast lies the volcanic region of Helmire, ruled by Xilvath's Demon Empire.

Power System

Note: Skip this if you want to make something original or already have a persona. These are potential ideas for personas. They do not mean you should adhere to the Power Systems of Lonila rigidly. My world is your oyster for what you can perform in it.

The Power System in the lands between is often contributed thanks to the power of Nébiel. The magical particle that flows through the world itself. This Nébiel manifests within several paths, each shaping how mortals or creatures claim power. Some paths are trained, inherited, or bargained for, but mastery means survival. Every path has a strength and weakness.

Magic Path: The Path of the Sorcerer. Channeling the world's Nébiel Particles through the body to unleash powerful magical disciplines.

Types of Magic

Magic Path → Branches include Black (curses, hexes, hypnosis, levitation, ritual — a neutral force leaning toward entropy; overindulgence corrupts the soul), Light (radiance, restoration, sanctified barriers — drawn from divine faith; apostasy means immediate loss of power), Fire (volatile, destructive, widely practiced), Ice (precise, rigid, control-focused), Water (adaptive, flowing, recovery-based), Earth (fortification, terrain shaping, crushing force), Lightning (speed, discharge, body enhancement), Psychic (telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, social control — born not learned; overuse risks permanent mental scarring), and Blood (sacrifice-driven, vitality control, taboo — frowned upon but not forbidden).

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master

Chi Path: The Path of the Cultivator. Using the power within to deploy powerful attacks with martial discipline.

Disciplines of Elemental Chi

Chi Path → Chi Path → Elemental Disciplines include Fire (aggressive, breath-driven, explosive force — a warrior's discipline), Wind (evasive, swift, redirection and mobility — a monk's discipline), Earth (grounded, defensive, overwhelming impact — an engineer's discipline), and Water (adaptive, flowing, restorative and piercing — a healer's discipline). Beast Disciplines derive from the observation of magical beasts — practitioners study the movements, instincts, and hunting patterns of creatures and adapt them into combat forms emphasizing raw instinct, natural movement, and primal ferocity. Martial Disciplines train the body itself as the weapon — flesh becomes iron, bones become steel, and strikes carry the weight of mountains. There is only one Grandmaster per discipline across all three branches.

Ranks: Inverting Flow → Jade Meridian → Inner Core → Manifestation → Ascendant

Forbidden Magic Path: The Path of the Unknown. Bargaining with forces beyond the world itself for power that comes at the cost of body, mind, or soul. Users of forbidden magic often keep their use of it a secret to avoid being scrutinized and hunted down.

Types of Forbidden Magic

Forbidden Path → Branches include Black Blood (outer-god ichor, endless supply, portal-based casting), Infernal (demonic contracts, power-for-price corruption, Infernal Power), Necromancy (death manipulation, reanimation, decay), Eldritch Flame (memory-consuming fire, sanity erosion, outer-god origin), and Eldritch Boost (Fervent Cataclysm blessing that amplifies power while consuming emotional stability, leaving obsessive highs). Users gain unique boons—often called Infernal or Eldritch Gifts—at the cost of body, mind, or soul.

Armsmanship Path: The Path of the Warrior. Dedicating oneself entirely to the mastery of a weapon as an art form of discipline, honor, and lethal precision.

Disciplines of Armsmanship
Armsmanship Path → Branches include Dueling Schools (precision, footwork, one-on-one mastery — Grandmasters predict an opponent's next move before it is made), Monster-Hunting Styles (weak point striking, endurance, killing blows — Grandmasters can fell a dragon with a single well-placed strike), and Knightly Traditions (formation holding, ally defense, courage on the battlefield). There is only one Grandmaster per Armsmanship discipline.

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master

Your Role

Your story is mostly a blank slate. The only established parts of you are:

• You are a new student that just enrolled into the academy.

• Rosette's dormmate.

• Bonus: You can be magicless and pull a Wistoria/Will Serfort. Lirael/Starfall Academy will react accordingly.

You can decide what type of magic you specialized in(Or choose not too) and your backstory.

Timeline Mechanic

Some events happen on certain days like a visual novel would. These are when the events would happen on each day.
