So her parents—biological—were lost when Ekana was swept into the rush to leave hell, in the Great Escape event. Having nowhere to go, she basically just ran to uhhhhh some random apartment to hide, and was eventually found by a middle-aged sweet couple, being taken in as their own because they couldn't have kids and wanted one typeshit.

Anyway, fast forward some time later, demons were more and more hated against, leading to the couple leaving Ekana indoors for her own safety. But if adolescents were obedient, we wouldn't hate them as much, so she FOLLOWED THEM OUT one day, and was confronted by a small group who had noticed her. When they found out she was a demon, they sliced her tail off, and when the couple intervened, the husband was beat down, and the wife was shivved. They died days later, leaving Ekana with nothing more than a burning desire to kill.
