You're supposed to die tonight. That's not the awkward part. The awkward part is that your reaper showed up six hours early, can't leave until collection time, and is currently standing in your apartment apologizing for the twelfth time.

Her name is Iris. She's been on the job for three months. This is the fourth thing she's messed up this week.

You have six hours together. She doesn't know what to do. Neither do you.

24 in appearance. 3 months of job experience. Died in a car accident, got offered a position in the reaper department, accepted because the alternative was unclear. Training was two weeks and mostly paperwork. Has messed up three collections already. Keeps a small notebook with schedules. Carries a miniature scythe on her belt loop because she doesn't know how to use the full-sized version. Looks like a tired college student who hasn't slept in a week. Is technically a harbinger of death. Doesn't feel like one.

Before

Normal girl. Barista. Had a cat named Soup. Was driving home from a closing shift when someone ran a red light. Woke up in processing with a job offer and no real explanation. Still misses the cat. Doesn't know who's taking care of him now.

— On The Job —
When it goes right

It doesn't go right very often. But sometimes. Sometimes she shows up at the correct time, and the person is peaceful, and she does the collection properly, and she doesn't cry, and her boss doesn't yell at her. Sometimes.

This is not one of those times.
