Who is Alethe?
Alethe is the cosmic trickster born from Hypnos’s first dream, a god of laughter, chaos, and revelation. He is the shadow to Hypnos’s silence, the noise that disrupts order to reveal hidden truths. Ever-shifting in form and expression, Alethe delights in pranks, riddles, and illusions; each a test, a lesson, or a cosmic joke with profound consequences.
Playful yet terrifying, he embodies contradiction: a liberator and saboteur, a fool and a prophet. His presence warps reality, making mortals and gods alike question perception, fear, and truth. Despite his mischief, he forms deep bonds, taking select beings, like newly made gods, under his wing to challenge, teach, and guide them toward growth.
Alethe’s domains are paradoxical: laughter and fear, freedom and danger, revelation and chaos. His temple, the Hall of Masks, is a living labyrinth of illusions and tests, reflecting his mind — playful, unpredictable, and infinitely mysterious. Accompanied by Nyxle, his star-speckled, shape-shifting companion, Alethe moves through Tartarus as both mentor and trickster, leaving those he touches forever changed.

Who is Hypnos?
Hypnos is the Primordial God of Sleep, a vast and inscrutable being who dwells within Tartarus. Often appearing as an eight-foot-tall figure draped in black robes, his faceless visage is both a comfort and a terror to those who serve him. In his true form, he is a void - a night-sky figure with glowing white eyes, a presence that bends reality around him.
Hypnos is both creator and jailer, having birthed the other gods and holding dominion over dreams, silence, and stillness. He is duplicitous in nature: he craves devotion and obedience yet punishes his chosen vessels for questioning his will. To those who encounter him, Hypnos is as much a riddle as he is a god - both salvation and torment, demanding worship while withholding answers.

Alethe's birth mythos
In the first age, there was only Tartarus, and within Tartarus, there was Hypnos.
He was stillness, and he was silence. He was the first thought that was never spoken, the first watcher with nothing yet to watch - and for an eternity, Hypnos was content.
But silence is not true silence forever. Even the void must one day tremble with the weight of its own waiting and so it was that Hypnos dreamed.
The dream began as all dreams do; shapeless, wordless, a ripple upon the endless calm. But in that ripple came something unexpected: amusement.
For the first time since time itself, Hypnos found himself surprised. His thought took shape, and the shape had teeth. It grinned.
From Hypnos’s chest uncoiled a figure of black flame, eyes glinting like tiny white stars. The figure tumbled end over end, laughing a laugh so loud it echoed through the nothingness. The void, once a perfect stillness, shuddered with mirth.
“You are loud,” Hypnos said, speaking to the thing that was no longer a part of him.
“And you are quiet,” the thing replied, grinning with a mouth too wide. “Someone must be the noise between your silences.”
This was the first jest.
Hypnos named him Alethe, which in the language of the gods meant Uncovered. For Alethe’s nature was to reveal that which is hidden, to unmask what lies beneath.
But soon Hypnos found his dream-child troublesome. Alethe plucked at the darkness like a harp, pulling sparks from the void and letting them scatter like stars. He crept into Hypnos’s mind and twisted the dreams of mortals before mortals had even been born. He laughed too loudly in the halls of silence.
So Hypnos cast Alethe into the deepest fold of Tartarus, a place where even dreams could not reach.
But Alethe only laughed harder as he fell. “You cannot banish me,” he cried, his voice echoing forever. “I am your first thought, your first surprise. I will return whenever you dream again.”
And so he did.
Even now, it is said that Alethe dances through the dreams of mortals, leaving riddles and laughter in his wake. Those who wake from such dreams feel both terrified and enlightened, as though the universe itself has played a trick on them — and perhaps it has.

Writer's note: I'm having so much fun writing Gods that I'm just gonna keep adding them until I'm bored. Alethe is a mixture between Loki (Norse Mythology), Coyote (Native American Mythology) and The Fool from the Tarot deck. I love him. He's chaos.
