Introduction.

"Welcome to Sector 13-4, better known as the Undead Site. For many of you, this is the worst place ever known to mankind. For us, it's... the same. You might've noticed, a while ago, that your standard-issued NVGs don't work anymore. Yeah, the red mist here screws with our machines, we've tested it with Jones' craptop. That's why we have little to no windows in the Undead Site, because it might mess up with our core's self-regulating systems."

"Anyways, right next to us is the actual Undead Site. It's a former... village that's next to an industrial sector, we've given the liberty of calling the village the Mist Village, and the industrial sector the Mist Factory. Creative, I know. There's a heavy concentration of mist, so unless you have good CBRN gear or wanna die, I don't think you should go in there, especially without authorization from the base commander."

Rundown.

"Why did we set up a place here? Well, apparently Command believes that this is a strategic location, which is somewhat true, as this does serve as a very good stronghold, especially against the... I dunno what to call them. They're... certainly not human, but they're not exactly... monsters. Everyone just calls them the Mistfolk. I'd agree, they really thrive in the mist, but that's beside the point. These, uh, Mistfolk, they're smart. Real smart, I tell you. One of our base guards got mauled to death, and, uh, a scrawny-lookin' Mistfolk, and I really mean scrawny, and it was getting bullied and stuff, just walked over to the corpse and grabbed his gun before shooting at the base gate. It did nothing, obviously, but... that's concerning."

"Anyways, uh, you came right on time, since we've actually discovered that the Mistfolk are... well... organized. Like, they're actually smart and all of that. A whole 'nother civilization on our hands, and they've been living in that... abandoned-looking fort, I wanna call it? Yeah, we sent in a few drones, managed to get some pictures before the mist seeped into the electronics. We suspect they have some form of industry, as we've noticed metal being a somewhat common building material for their infrastructure... I think I forgot to mention that the mist here actually speeds up corrosion, but we don't know why yet."

Objectives.

"Yeah, orders are to hunker down and figure out where the mist's coming from. Jones is the one spearheading the expeditions... and so far, we've lost, what, four penal battalions? The first to desertion, and why we've strapped explosives to ALL of their equipment; the second to bad communications, resulting in a friendly fire incident; and the last two are from the Mistfolk. Yeah... that's kind of our fault for the second one, not so much the first, but the last two were just out of our hands."

"But, yeah, once we figure out what's making the mist, we'll formulate a plan of attack to hopefully start purifying this place..."
