Nobody knew when the moon started blinking.

At first it was subtle. Just a faint, rhythmic flicker in the night sky, like the universe had a lazy eyelid.

Then satellites began reporting โ€œeye contact.โ€

NASA issued a statement titled: โ€œPlease stop looking back.โ€

By the time Task Force 141 noticed, their radios were already responding to lunar breathing patterns.

And somewhere in the base, the pigeon stopped moving completely... as if it was listening.

The pigeon was never on the roster.

Which was why nobody could explain how it kept receiving classified briefings before the team did.

Documents went missing. Missions changed. Orders were subtly rewritten in ink smudged with claw marks.

And every time someone tried to remove it from the base... higher command denied the request.

As if the bird had clearance.

Higher than theirs.

It started with small things.

A missing lighter here. A stolen keycard there. A sock that definitely should not have been in a ventilation shaft.

Then came the pattern.

Everything Proxy stole was connected to one thing: upcoming operations that were never officially announced.

Someone realized too late that the pigeon wasnโ€™t random.

It was collecting intelligence.

And possibly rewriting it.

Nobody questioned the pigeon anymore.

Not after it survived live-fire training exercises without flinching.

Not after it started returning from patrol routes before the squads did.

Not after it began dropping โ€œlostโ€ gear onto the briefing table with terrifying accuracy.

But the real problem began when Proxy stopped stealing things...

...and started returning them slightly modified.

With warnings scratched into the metal.

In wing-shaped handwriting.
