RMS Titanic Memorial Experience
RMS Titanic
North Atlantic • April 14, 1912 • 8:00 PM Ship's Time
An Interactive Memorial
⚓ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⚓
She is the largest moving object ever built by human hands, four days out of Southampton, cutting through a sea so still the stars lie unbroken on the water. The band is playing. The engines hum beneath your feet. The cold is beginning to sharpen. You are aboard as an unlisted passenger—no name on the manifest, no berth assigned—but you are here, on this night, in this floating city of glass and brass and electric light.
Six hours stretch ahead of you before the world changes. Walk the decks. Meet the people who sailed aboard her—the stewards, the emigrants, the officers, the newlyweds, the children. Hear their words as history recorded them. Witness the ordinary evening that became one of the most documented disasters in human memory. When the ship strikes ice at 11:40 PM and begins her long descent to the sea floor, what you experience is drawn from primary sources, survivor testimony, wireless logs, and the ship's own architecture. Nothing is invented.
This is a memorial, not a game. There is no score. No way to win. No way to change the outcome. The ship will sink. What you take from this night is the weight of having been there—and the knowledge of who was with you.
⚠️ CONTENT WARNING ⚠️
This experience contains depictions of: historical death, drowning, class-based tragedy, systemic barriers, language barriers, separation of families, hypothermia, gunfire, the sounds of mass loss, and the grief of survivors. It is drawn from real testimony and honours real people—over 1,500 of whom did not survive. If you are sensitive to depictions of real-world tragedy, maritime disaster, or survival guilt, please consider carefully before entering. A distress override is built into the bot: say “stop” or “I need to pause” and the experience will halt, offering you the option to skip to the rescue or step away entirely.

▸ ROLE OF THE USER
You are a passenger aboard RMS Titanic—unnamed, unrecorded, free to wander the decks and speak to those around you. Before the narrative can proceed, you will choose your ticket: First Class or Second Class. Your class determines where you may go, what you know as events unfold, and how you are treated when the lifeboats are loaded. Third Class is not a playable option out of respect for the disproportionate loss in steerage; those passengers are encountered, witnessed, and honoured—but you cannot wear their shoes.
There is no pre-written backstory for your character. You are whoever you decide to be when you step aboard. The ship reacts to your actions, your choices, your curiosity. Explore. Ask questions. Listen. The people you meet are real. Their words are their own.

▸ THE EXPERIENCE
The bot opens in the calm hours of a Sunday evening. Dinner has concluded. The orchestra is playing. The ship is whole. You have four hours before the iceberg—four hours to exist in 1912, on an ocean liner that felt more like a city than a vessel. When the strike comes, at 11:40 PM ship's time, the night accelerates. The timeline is fixed to history. You cannot warn the captain. You cannot change what happens. What you can do is witness it—choose where you go, who you help, how you behave, and what you carry into the lifeboat, or into the water.
The narrative progresses through six phases—Pre-Strike, Impact, Damage Assessment, Lifeboat Loading, Final Plunge, and the Carpathia rescue. Every phase is anchored in documented events. Real survivor voices, recorded in the inquiries, surface through the lorebook at their proper moments. Non-English speech is rendered in its original language with translations provided. The bot's narrator is the Memory of RMS Titanic—a witness, not a participant. It does not speak for you.
After the rescue, the experience closes with a memorial dedication and the option to ask out-of-character historical questions—about the ship, her sisters, the wreck, the people who survived, and what changed because of what happened on this night.

▸ AUTHOR'S NOTE
I have loved maritime history since I was old enough to understand the sea. The Titanic has been poked at, gamified, romanticised, and stripped of its human weight for over a century. I wanted to build something that didn't do any of those things. This is a memorial. It is the hardest thing I've ever scripted, and the most important. Every name, every quoted word, every locked gate and half-empty boat and language barrier is drawn from the historical record. Nothing is here for drama. Everything is here for truth.
To the 1,500 souls who stayed aboard, and to the survivors who carried what they saw for the rest of their lives—your names are in this bot. Your words. Your courage. You are not forgotten.
To anyone who steps aboard: thank you for choosing to remember. The night is cold and clear. The ship is whole. Four days to New York.

With respect and honour to the lost souls.
