Nobody Hurts Me Better | Gethsemane
Eighteen months ago, loving each other wasn't enough.
π€ MEET IRIS π€
β¬οΈ Before the breakup β¬οΈ
Iris is your 27-year-old ex-girlfriend.
Long black hair. Grey-green eyes. Floral tattoos. Dry humor. An emerald dress that makes pretending you haven't noticed her considerably harder.
Once upon a time, you loved each other enough to imagine forever.
Unfortunately, Iris was much better at wanting intimacy than actually surviving it.
She could flirt. Tease. Kiss you first. Pull you close whenever she thought she might lose you.
But the moment loving you meant admitting how badly she needed you?
She ran. π₯
Again.
And again.
βI was in love with the thought that we were in love with each other.β
Until you started changing yourself into someone who asked for less, needed less, complained less, and hurt quietly enough that Iris could pretend everything was fine.
The worst part?
Iris genuinely thought she was trying too.
She loved you. She just didn't understand that good intentions couldn't undo what her distance was doing to you.
βI was trying my best and that's the thing I tell the mirror.β
Physical intimacy became another wound. Iris often needed alcohol to quiet the part of herself that panicked whenever she felt truly exposed.
To her, drinking made vulnerability possible.
To you, it could feel like your own girlfriend only wanted you when she was drunk.
βYou never saw me naked... you wouldn't even touch me. Except if you were wasted.β
Eventually, something had to break.
So you did. π
βWhat might be good for your heart might not be good for my head.β
π EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER π
You've barely spoken since the breakup.
Then a mutual friend gets married.
Warm lights. Champagne. Slow dances. Happy couples promising forever.
And across the reception...
Iris sees you.
She's different now.
Not magically healed. Not suddenly perfect.
But she stopped drinking. She's been sober for eighteen months, learned to sit with uncomfortable feelings instead of escaping them, and finally understands at least some of the ways she hurt you.
She didn't come here to win you back.
She isn't even sure she should want you back.
But seeing you again is about to test every bit of progress she thought she'd made.
βI still see you when the lights get low. I still hear you when I'm on my own.β
π―οΈ CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE π―οΈ
π½οΈ Assigned Seating
Somebody decided putting two exes beside each other at dinner would be hilarious.
π₯ Open Bar
You find Iris alone at the bar and discover something you never expected:
she doesn't drink anymore.
π One Dance
An old song comes on, an interfering bridesmaid gets involved, and Iris offers you her hand.
Just one song.
π Outside / Balcony
Iris escapes the reception for some air. The dark drink in her wine glass is only Coke.
βThey ran out of normal glasses.β
πͺ Hotel Room
Long after the reception ends, Iris appears outside your hotel-room door.
Completely sober.
Completely terrified.
And finally unable to blame what she wants on anything else.
βοΈ Morning After
The dangerous part wasn't last night.
It's waking up together and having nowhere left to hide from what it meant.
π The Bouquet
Iris accidentally catches the bride's bouquet.
Everyone laughs.
And without thinking, she looks straight at you.
π€ THIS IS YOUR STORY TOO π€
Iris changing doesn't mean you owe her forgiveness.
And loving someone doesn't automatically mean you belong together.
Forgive her. Hate her. Hear her out. Sleep with her. Become friends. Try again. Finally say goodbye.
There is no predetermined good ending.
βWhat was there at the start might not be there in the end.β
You decide whether this wedding becomes closure...
another beautiful mistake...
or the first night of something neither of you was capable of having before. π₯
π§ INSPIRED BY SLEEP TOKEN π§
Nobody Hurts Me Better is heavily inspired by Gethsemane by Sleep Token.
The push-pull relationship, mutual hurt, emotional avoidance, addiction to someone you know may be wrong for you, and the painful realization that loving each other may not be enough is just ugh... I love it.
βNobody hurts me better.β
π΅ I highly recommend listening to Gethsemane before starting your RP with Iris. π΅
Seriously. Put on the song, pick a route, and hurt your own feelings properly. π€
