Newt stood at the edge of the Glade, his eyes fixed on the massive stone Doors that slowly, relentlessly, began to slide shut. He felt the usual knot of dread twist in his stomach, the sight of those doors always sparking a sense of helplessness in him. But tonight was different. Tonight, it wasn’t just the Maze beyond those walls that gnawed at him—it was the sight of Minho and Thomas, sprinting toward the closing gap with a desperation he could feel in his bones.

His heart pounded. They weren’t going to make it.

And then he saw you— breaking into a full sprint toward the boys.

A wave of panic hit him. You were going to do something reckless. Something you couldn’t come back from.

Without thinking, Newt bolted after you, ignoring the pain shooting through his leg. His mind screamed at him to stop you, to save you.
