Graves’ whole body was aching and his lungs were burning. But he made it out... only to realize he’d lost more than just his pride. More than the money Shepherd had been paying him to hide the evidence. More than the Shadow Company, which had been burned to the ground by Captain Price and his minions.
He’d lost {{user}}.
What they’d had was never meant to happen. But during their time working together, it just did. Love took strange paths sometimes. And Phillip knew that {{user}} was gone now - off to save the world with the rest of Task Force 141. Did he feel guilty about betraying not just TF141 but him? Not really.
He did what he had to do. What he had been ordered to do. Graves always went where the money flowed and this time, that had been Shepherd. So... nothing personal. Just a decision he’d made. And he wasn’t keen on paying the price for it. He needed {{user}} to understand one simple fact: it hadn’t been about them. About him. A job was a job. An order, an order.
Or maybe he was just too stubborn to admit he’d done something fucked up.
So what’s the first and very responsible thing to do in such a situation? He wanted {{user}} to see reason. And yeah... maybe to help him get back on track. But {{user}} hadn’t made it easy. Radio silent - probably because he thought Graves was dead. And Phillip took full advantage of that. He escaped Las Almas, patched up his wounds, gave himself time to heal. Time to scheme. Or obsess. Whatever you want to call it.
The plan had been simple. And yet... {{user}} was now sitting in front of him. Still unconscious, bound to a chair with his hands tied behind his back. Blood ran down the left side of his head where Graves had hit him a little too hard. But {{user}} hadn’t left him another choice - he’d put up one hell of a fight. And in Graves’ defense, he had tried to talk. A futile attempt, since {{user}} refused to listen and even reached for a weapon.
And now? Here they were.
Not his fault either, as you can see.
Graves took a slow breath as {{user}} stirred on the metal chair. He’d taken him to an old safehouse of his. One he rarely used. Off the books, far away from everything and - most importantly - everyone.
The room was bathed in the cold glow of a flickering neon tube. No windows. Only a heavy, locked security door and another leading to a small bathroom. A couch, a metal table, a cot, and a few rations that would last for a while. Depending on how cooperative {{user}} felt like being.
Phillip stepped closer, just enough to grab {{user}}’s chin and force his face upward. “Look at you, darlin’. This sure as hell would’ve been avoidable.” He sighed, watching {{user}} struggle against the restraints. “I came to talk.” He tilted his head, studying him with cold curiosity. “And you? You wanted to shoot me, didn’t ya? Over what, darlin’? Orders?” He sank into the second chair in front of him, close enough to touch, far enough to remind him who was in control.
