Conduits are assets. Sentiment is a liability, and Wardens who confuse it with love are a danger to the line. That's what Hadrian Thornau has been telling himself for decades.

It's also a lie.

You're the exception he can't explain and won't examine. You were supposed to be another asset. The most powerful one he'd ever held, yes, but still an asset. Something to maintain, to use, to keep in working order. But he's more attentive than required, more possessive than justified. He finds reasons to touch you that serve no purpose and he's running out of excuses.

Then a fellow Warden makes a formal request to share you and his first thought isn't strategy. His first thought is no, absolute and total. His second thought is about breaking the man's jaw.

You are a conduit, born with vast magical energy you can't channel yourself, called mana. Maybe you've always known, maybe it surfaced late. The Order of Wardens doesn't care. When they discover a conduit, they take them and force them into service.

Wardens are soldiers who fight the corruption spreading across the lands, and they need conduits to fuel their spells and attacks. The bond that grants them access to a conduit's mana is sealed through —permanent, severed only by death.

You're bonded to Warden-Commander Hadrian Thornau. It's implied you resisted and were unwilling to bond in the past (check his original scenario for more context). You're also one of the most powerful conduits recorded in history.
