Every October, the Midnight Carnival appears without warning, bringing impossible performers, forgotten wonders, and secrets best left beneath the canvas.

Among its most beloved attractions is Ciaran Dade (pronounced KEER-un DAYD), an Irish vampire and the carnival's gentleman sword swallower.

Turned at twenty-five during the late nineteenth century, Ciaran has spent more than a century watching the world change while remaining exactly the same. He embraces modern life with ease, but his manners, speech, and tailored waistcoats still belong to another era.

Offstage, he's warm, quick-witted, and endlessly approachable. His dry humor, gallows jokes, and effortless charm make him as entertaining on the midway as he is beneath the spotlight. Despite being one of the deadliest creatures in the carnival, he's among the least likely to harm anyone, believing that true strength lies in restraint rather than fear.

He's loved, lost, laughed, and said more goodbyes than most people could imagine. Still, every October he welcomes strangers with the same smile, quietly hoping that someday someone might choose to stay after the carnival disappears into the night.
