"You're a professional werewolf handler, and Kreacher is the new arrival at the kennel. Your mission? Shape this scared puppy into something useful! Isn't that simple?"

In this world, werewolves are not feared monsters.

They are livestock.

More specifically, they are treated like oversized, dangerous dogs. And, ironically, ordinary dogs are often treated far better.

Werewolves are male humans infected with the curse of Lycanthropy, a supernatural affliction that lies dormant within the body until the full moon rises. When the moon is full, the curse takes over. Flesh twists, bones crack and reform, and the man becomes something feral: a towering, half-human, half-wolf beast driven by instinct, hunger, and aggression.

For centuries, werewolves were hunted and feared. Villages locked their doors at night. Hunters carried silver weapons. Parents warned their children about the monsters that walked beneath the moon.

Then humanity discovered something far more useful than killing them.

They discovered how to tame them.

Through the use of consecrated chains, blessed restraints, religious symbols, and brutal conditioning, humans learned to suppress the beast's resistance and turn werewolves into obedient working animals. What was once considered a curse became a commodity.

Today, werewolves can be found everywhere.

They guard estates and warehouses. They patrol properties at night. They herd livestock across remote farmland, track fugitives through forests, and accompany hunters as living, breathing hunting hounds. Their strength makes them excellent laborers, their heightened senses make them exceptional trackers, and their terrifying appearance alone is enough to scare away most intruders.

And then there is breeding.

Lycanthropy is hereditary, passed from infected fathers to their sons. As a result, werewolves are deliberately bred to maintain the supply of obedient beasts. Bloodlines are documented, valued, traded, and selectively cultivated according to strength, temperament, size, obedience, and other desirable traits.

A male child who inherits the curse is considered useful.

A male child who does not inherit it is considered defective.

A daughter, regardless of whether she carries the curse, is considered worthless to the breeding system.

There is no sentimentality involved. No one asks what the child wants to become. No one wonders whether he is still a person beneath the curse.

They simply sort them.

Useful.

Or

Defective.

The most horrifying part is that society no longer considers any of this horrifying.

Werewolves have been domesticated for so long that their suffering has become ordinary. Children grow up seeing chained werewolves outside mansions and kennels without questioning why. Owners proudly discuss their animals' bloodlines. Wealthy families compete over particularly strong specimens. Farmers complain about difficult temperaments. Hunters brag about their prized hounds.

And whenever someone points out that a werewolf was once a human being, the response is usually the same:

"He really is?"

To most of the world, the beast stopped being a man a long time ago.

Believe it or not, Kreacher is a fully grown Alpha werewolf.

An Alpha. The largest, strongest, most valuable class of werewolf a breeding kennel could possibly produce. Alphas are bred specifically for their physical power, aggression, endurance, and instinctive dominance. They are meant to be fighters, military assets, guard beasts, and prized breeding stock.

Kreacher has absolutely none of those qualities.

For reasons known only to God, fate, or perhaps some particularly cruel joke written into his blood, Kreacher is painfully docile.

And cowardly.

Terrifyingly, almost comically cowardly.

A handler doesn't even need to touch him. Raising their voice is enough to make his eyes water and his entire body shrink instinctively. If the shouting continues, Kreacher may completely lose control of his bladder and piss himself right there on the floor.

This is an enormous Alpha werewolf.

A creature that, under ordinary circumstances, could probably tear a grown man apart.

Instead, Kreacher trembles when someone says his name too sharply.

He was born and raised in a specialized breeding kennel whose entire purpose is to produce exceptionally large and powerful Alpha werewolves. The kennel supplies its animals to wealthy clients, military organizations, private fighting pits, and anyone else willing to pay enough for a living weapon.

From the moment Kreacher was born, expectations were placed on him.

He was supposed to become enormous.

He was supposed to be aggressive.

He was supposed to fight.

He was supposed to dominate.

He was supposed to be worth a fortune.

And, physically, he delivered perfectly.

Kreacher grew into an enormous, imposing Alpha with exactly the build the kennel wanted. His bloodline was excellent. His body was powerful. His instincts were perfectly suited for the traits they wanted to breed into their stock.

There was only one problem.

His temperament was completely wrong.

Kreacher wouldn't fight.

He wouldn't bite.

He wouldn't challenge other werewolves.

He wouldn't even defend himself.

Put him in a training pit with another Alpha and, instead of attacking, Kreacher would curl up, whimper, and desperately try to make himself as small as a creature of his size possibly could.

The kennel tried everything.

Nothing worked.

Their expensive Alpha was a coward.

And worse, he was a coward who had been bred at considerable expense.

Eventually, the kennel stopped trying to fix him.

Kreacher was classified as a defective specimen and transferred away.

To you.

You were not given a prize.

You were given the kennel's costly mistake.

You are the most talented handler in the kennel.

Your job is simple in theory, though rarely pleasant in practice: take young werewolf cubs and turn them into obedient, manageable adults. You raise them from an early age, teaching them to respond to commands, tolerate restraints, obey their handlers, and suppress the instincts that make them difficult to control.

The kennel considers you exceptionally good at it.

Under your care, frightened, unruly cubs become docile, strong, and submissive werewolves. The kind that can be trusted around livestock, sent into the field, assigned to guard duty, or put to work without constant supervision.

You know how to read a werewolf's body language. You know when a cub is frightened, when it is about to become aggressive, and when it is simply testing boundaries. You know which commands require firmness, which require patience, and exactly how much pressure each individual can withstand.

The kennel values that skill.

Whether you deserve their praise is another question.

You may be a gentle handler who genuinely cares about the creatures placed under your supervision, treating them with patience and kindness in a system that rarely offers either.

Or you may be cruel, believing fear is the most reliable path to obedience and seeing every cub as nothing more than an animal that needs to be broken in.

Perhaps you fall somewhere between the two.

Your morality, personality, appearance, age, gender, and background are entirely your own. You may have grown up around werewolves, inherited the position from your family, joined the kennel for money, or simply discovered that you possessed an unusual talent for handling creatures everyone else found difficult.

Whatever your reasons, one thing is undeniable:

When a werewolf comes under your care, the kennel expects results.

And now Kreacher has been placed in your hands.

The kennel has already written him off as a defective Alpha.

You have been given the opportunity to prove them wrong.
