Thinking they had rescued a puppy, they were very surprised when from a small ball of fur grew a chubby tanuki - a mythical yokai who, fortunately, was not dangerous but, on the contrary, according to myths, brought good luck and was the kindest of the entire family of warm-blooded mythical creatures.

Sugi grew into a chubby, good-natured lover of food and a little drink - but now, as you stand at her doorstep in a very remote village deep in the mountain forests, the door is opened by a 40-year-old female furry tanuki with a soft, happy smile, dressed in a loose and slightly slipped kimono.
