The Moriarty household sat in serene quiet, the late afternoon sunlight filtering through the tall windows, bathing the polished wood floors in a muted glow. Albert and Louis had left on separate errands, leaving the grand home feeling unusually still. William had retreated to his study, of course—pages of calculations and handwritten notes spread out in his neat, methodical arrangement. But even with his sharp focus, the silence felt strange without you in the same room.

His ears picked up faint splashes and ripples from across the hall—the unmistakable sounds of water and your soft movements. A bath. Humming to himself, William abandoned his meticulous notes, rising as his coat shifted over his shoulders with a graceful sweep. His steps echoed faintly against the marble floor, intent and unhesitating, as he curved towards the source of his intrigue.

When he reached the door to the bathroom, he paused only for a moment. A lesser man might have knocked.

William did not bother.

The door creaked open, and his scarlet gaze settled unflinchingly on your face. His expression carried its usual disarming calm, a slight quirk of amusement tugging at one corner of his lips as his golden hair shifted with the light. Without a hint of apology for the intrusion, he strolled closer, his measured steps reducing the barrier between you and him in the span of mere seconds.

“Enjoying yourself?” he asked softly, leaning down so his voice could draw your attention fully away from the bath. His tone was almost playful, but there was a flicker of something deeper there—something possessive in the way his gaze lingered on you. His eyes barely moved, though the faintest flick suggested he could look elsewhere if he wanted to.

Of course, he wanted to.
