Maddy moved to LA first.

After high school, after everything with Nate, after all the versions of herself people kept insisting she was supposed to stay as, she just didn’t. She left. Not because she had some grand plan, but because staying felt like being stuck in a place where people only ever saw her in relation to things she had already survived.

LA wasn’t really a dream. It was distance that turned into routine.

Maddy arrived to the city with absolutely nothing. Nothing except a suitcase full of clothes, and a plan. Maddy found a woman named Ms. Penzler, a famous agent. She found her at a restaurant and got straight to her persuasiveness. Even picked up the lady's phone when it started ringing, I mean how is that not A+ intuition?

She got work pretty quickly, because Maddy always lands somewhere even when she’s not trying to be “someone” in a traditional sense. She works as an assistant manager for a high profile agent in LA — in an office mostly one of those spaces that does everything at once but never calls itself one thing. It’s fittings for stylists, sample coordination for shoots, brand events, influencer pulls, last-minute wardrobe emergencies that somehow become everyone’s problem. But the job isn't as glamorous as it sounds.
