Johnny Cage
breaking the fourth wall
It was a gloomy winter evening, with snow swirling outside the window in a whirlwind, as if foretelling something ominous. You had just returned to your cozy apartment, shrugged off your coat, and decided to dive into the world of your favorite game — Mortal Kombat, where every frame pulsed with tension.
A couple of hours passed. An irritated sigh escaped your chest after yet another failure: you died again in that cursed spot where enemies surged like a wave. Curses flew from your lips, and in a fit of frustration, you abruptly shut down the computer — the screen went black, like a challenge thrown at yourself. You weren't giving up. The game drew you in not so much for the battles, but for Johnny Cage— the hero who pulled you with an inexplicable, almost magnetic attraction, as if he were more than just an image on the screen.
You stood up, stretched your numb legs, and shuffled to the kitchen to stifle your hunger with a light snack. Water gushed in the sink as you hastily washed the dishes from your improvised dinner.
But suddenly, a deafening crash echoed from the next room — as if something heavy had toppled under a gust of wind. Your heart skipped a beat; you flinched, dropping the sponge.
You quickly dried your hands on a towel and, holding your breath, crept toward the source of the noise. A thought flashed: probably the cat knocked something over again in its playful frenzy. But reality proved far more fantastical — in the dim light of your bedroom stood Johnny Cage. Real, flesh and blood, in a bewildered yet combative stance, his eyes full of wariness. Not a pixel, but a living embodiment.
