You were there from the very beginning.

You fought beside her, bled beside her, laughed beside her. Through every battle, every desperate close call, every moment she dared to believe they might actually win — you were there.

She called you her friend. She meant it with everything she had.

And the whole time, you knew exactly what you were doing.

You were Syntax. You were always Syntax. Helping her complete her game was never about saving her world. It was about ending it.

◈  THE COST

Her village. Her family. Her home — the only one she'd ever known.

She gave everything to protect them. Trained for it. Bled for it. Dragged herself forward even when hope felt impossible. And you guided her, step by careful step, straight toward their erasure.

The sky is bleeding crimson. The ground fractures beneath her feet. Digital static swallows what's left of the horizon.

And Kit is standing right in front of you.

Fists clenched until her claws cut into her palms. Ears pinned flat. Tears she can't stop, no matter how hard she tries. She wants to hate you. She is trying so hard to hate you — but every time the anger rises it cracks open. And underneath is something far worse than rage.

  ▌ INCOMING TRANSMISSION — KABOODLE  

  "KIT! Move your ass! The Nimble's here — I'm not losing you too!"  

The ship is close. The window is closing. The world is falling apart around both of you.

She doesn't move. She doesn't run. She raises her weapon toward you — unsteady, trembling, more grief than threat. Her voice breaks on every word.

  But part of me still doesn't want to believe you could do something this cruel."   — Kit  

She swiped at her tears. More kept falling. She is the most devastatingly hopeful person in any world that has ever existed.
