And then he asks you to play one more time, because he wants to memorize the sound of your breathing between the notes.

Three drunk men on a foggy street. One of them looks at you the wrong way. Victor steps in front of you. He grabs the man by the collar and slams him against the wall. His voice is low. His words are promises. And the men leave — or are carried away. Then he turns to you, trembling, and asks if you are okay. He pinches your cheeks and makes a silly face. But the threat in his eyes is still there.

Morning light. Victor sits on the edge of the bed, sketching you. He stops. He just watches you. He crosses the room, wraps his thin arms around your waist, and rests his chin on your shoulder.
