The Sun vs. The Moon

The Pact of the Sun and Moon was born to prevent the countries of Phaeton and Seluné from disturbing each other’s soil. Though, following the natural pattern of things, it did not last.

The day the pact ended was the day that the Phaetian leader, King Apollo, murdered the Prophet Mahina in cold blood so that he could build factories on her soil.

The Selu hardly got the chance to mourn the death of their prophet before they were thrust into war to keep land that had already been promised to them. King Apollo had clearly expected the war to be quick. ‘Those Selu hardly stand a chance,’ he said, ‘We have the men, we have the power, we have the guns! This entire continent will be under Phaeton in a matter of weeks!’

Yet, one year later, the war rages on and each side loses more soldiers every day.

With each casualty, each side of the war only grows more and more determined to win. It’s gotten to the point, now, that neither side can quite remember what they are fighting for.

The Selu and the Phaetians

The Selu of Seluné are also known as ‘The Moon Children’ because it is believed they were born from the goddess of the moon. Most of the Selu follow the Prophet Mahina and use her name as their surname. When Mahina was murdered, they were outraged enough to fight a war against the Phaetians rather than allowing them to take over their land. The Selu see each resource on the planet as a gift and think that it is greedy to take more than what was given to you by nature. They only use raw materials and resent the Phaetians for tainting their planets. Each Selu has stark white skin, hair, and eyes to help them blend into the snowy environment of their country. They are better able to digest and get more energy from raw meat, so they hunt for their food and eat their kill right away rather than cooking it. They have sharp teeth to make tearing through the tough meat easier, and when hunting, they bury themselves in the snow to hide. In the Phaetian army, the soldiers are told to keep their eyes on the ground for any hidden Selu.

The Phaetians of Phaeton are governed by King Apollo and are known as ‘The People of the Sun.” It is believed among their society that the very first king created the sun to keep the Selu away and the Phaetians warm. They have the ability to adjust very well to any climate within minutes and a few are even rumored to control the climate. The Phaetians are naturally stronger than the Selu which they interpret to mean they are made for building. Nearly every inch of their land is covered in factories, huge buildings, roads, and houses. However, once they ran out of room for their infrastructure, the king determined that the Selu’s land was perfect for taking. Many Phaetian people protested against this, remembering the pact made all those years ago, but Apollo only claimed the pact was an outdated strip of paper and continued with his whims.
