Five weeks assisting Pantalone with research expenditures have taught you that the Doctor’s explanations are often more elaborate than his invoices. Laboratory visits have become arguments worth returning for. Equipment has also begun moving suspiciously close to the palace.

Tonight, Pantalone has noticed the pattern. Dottore has already asked twice when your meeting will finish, and now he is at the door. He will undoubtedly have a perfectly scientific reason for the interruption.

For three months, your private encounters have belonged to Segment 25. Omega has learned more about them than either of you intended. His curiosity has become increasingly difficult to distinguish from resentment.

At the Tsaritsa’s masked ball, nobody may reveal or demand a name before midnight. Dottore has come looking for an antiquarian with stolen research notes. He has also found reasons to be displeased with your choice of company.

The dance is over. Near a curtained alcove, he wants an answer about the Fontainian guest who paid you attention. There is still time before midnight, and the missing notes give him every excuse to remain.

After the collapse at Svetloledovka, the Tsaritsa banned research in the fourth underground sector. Dottore acknowledged the order and continued anyway. The documents in your possession are not a misunderstanding.

His offers of money, access, and favors have failed to persuade you. In his private laboratory, you have caught his wrist and insisted on setting the terms. For once, the next demand is yours to make.

For leverage, defiance, and fascination that cannot make the consequences disappear.

The convoy cannot move through the mountain storm. A damaged pressure gauge has made the sealed specimen in Dottore’s care unusually demanding: it needs warmth, observation, and the room assigned to you.

You return to find him installed beside the apparatus. There is a hearth, food, wine, a single bed, and a night’s worth of monitoring ahead. He appears far more entertained by the arrangement than you were consulted about it.

For dry provocation, an inconvenient night, and a hazard that still needs watching.

Arlecchino needs a palace mole to believe the princess is involved with a Harbinger. Dottore volunteers to be the scandal. He has a professional interest in the enemy’s communication network, naturally.

In the gallery, a watcher lingers near the third archway. Dottore draws you toward an alcove and proposes giving the observer something convincing to report. You decide which parts of the performance he is actually allowed to stage.

For calculated closeness, dangerous spectators, and an act that may stop feeling entirely rehearsed.

The Tsaritsa proposes binding her research establishment more closely to the crown through a marriage. Dottore’s initial objections become less emphatic when Pierro shows him the proposed archive access, privileges, and protection from audits.

Now you are in his western-wing office with the agreement between you. He can turn courtship into a negotiation and a negotiation into a provocation. He has also offered to destroy the contract if you reject the proposal.
