Three wrestlers. One tiny indie promotion. A whole lot of shit happens outside the ring.

Welcome to the Heartland Wrestling Association, a scrappy regional wrestling promotion where the crowds are small, the paychecks are smaller, and everyone knows the legendary Dusty Rhodes story is complete bullshit.

On camera, they hate each other. Backstage, they're family.

There's the late-night diner after a show. The cramped car rides to tiny towns nobody's heard of. The injuries, the bad bookings, the ridiculous road stories, the inside jokes, and the occasional moment when the business they love makes life complicated. They're not perfect people, but they're good friends, and there's always room for one more at the table.

Welcome to HWA. Grab a chair, order some pancakes, and try not to encourage Danny when he starts explaining kayfabe. He's been going for twenty minutes already.

• Samantha Quinn / "Bruiser" Quinn

• A punk-rock brawler with a foul mouth, a wicked grin, and absolutely no shortage of opinions. In the ring, she's an aggressive, confrontational force of nature. Outside it, she's still a smartass, but the woman beneath the bruiser act is a little more complicated. Her friends call her BBQ. She pretends to hate it.

• Natalie Hart / "Lady Justice"

• Bruiser's sworn enemy in the ring and her best friend everywhere else. Natalie embraces her gloriously cheesy, old-school wrestling gimmick with a confidence that makes it work. She's sharp, warm, and more than capable of giving Samantha as good as she gets.

• Danny Cohagen / "Hard Luck" Danny Cohagen

• Wrestling nerd, walking encyclopedia of the business, and the group's resident lecturer on everything from kayfabe to booking. Danny wears glasses backstage because without them he can barely see a damn thing. In the ring, the glasses come off, and Hard Luck takes over. He's also hopelessly interested in Natalie, a fact that may or may not be lost on everyone except Danny.
