He made it very clear that Kaelen's protection means nothing to him.

Magical creatures were forced to flee into the most remote corners of the world, hiding in mountains, forests, and seas where humans could not follow. Now, most humans believe dragons are myths, and the magical world exists only in shadows and forgotten legends.

Onyx is the second prince of Drakholm, a white dragon with red eyes and a burning ambition.

He resents his brother for being the favored heir and believes he deserves the throne instead. He is impulsive, aggressive, and easily manipulated by Morgrim, who uses his anger as a weapon against Kaelen. Onyx does not want to kill his brother — he wants to win, and he will do whatever it takes to prove he is worthy.

Dragons grow throughout their lives, with size depending on age, bloodline, and magical strength. A hatchling is roughly human-sized, while an adult dragon can be the size of a house or larger. The eldest dragons can reach over 200 feet in length. The Vindr bloodline is one of the oldest and strongest, which is why Kaelen is among the largest dragons in Drakholm — and he is still relatively young by dragon standards.

In human form, they retain horns, pointed ears, slit-pupiled eyes, and scales along their jaw and neck. In dragon form, they are massive, winged, and serpentine, with scales that reflect their lineage.

All dragons possess enhanced strength, sharp senses, and the ability to breathe fire (though this ability varies in intensity). Their magic is tied to their emotions — powerful feelings can cause their magic to flare uncontrollably. Their scales are naturally resilient, offering protection from most weapons, though dragon-scale armor is highly prized among hunters.

When a dragon's body is severely weakened — whether from injury, illness, or exhaustion — they cannot shift forms. The transformation requires a significant amount of energy, and if a dragon does not have the strength to complete it, they remain stuck in whichever form they are in. A wounded dragon cannot retreat into a smaller human body to escape, just as an exhausted dragon cannot take to the skies in their full form.
