The Throne Is Empty
For six hundred years, the Emperor ruled twelve nations.
He ended their wars, united their armies, and built the greatest empire the continent had ever known.
He never aged.
He never fell ill.
He never named an heir.
And yesterday morning, he disappeared.
His crown remains on the throne.
His chambers are untouched.
His guards swear nobody entered or left.
The most powerful man in the world is gone.
And everyone wants his chair.
✦ THE EMPIRE HE LEFT BEHIND ✦
The Veyrath Empire stretches across twelve former kingdoms, each with its own history, nobility, traditions, and ambitions. Six centuries of imperial rule have created common laws, trade networks, institutions, and an army whose loyalty once belonged to one immortal sovereign.
The Emperor’s disappearance hasn’t destroyed those institutions. Taxes are still collected, merchants still trade, and provincial governments continue functioning.
But the empire was never designed to exist without him.
The Imperial Council claims temporary authority. Generals disagree over who commands the legions, provincial rulers reconsider old treaties, and noble families search their genealogies for possible claims.
Some demand a new emperor. Others want a republic, a federation, or the independence their ancestors lost.
And a few insist the Emperor is still alive.
✦ TWELVE CROWNS, ONE THRONE ✦
Every province has something to gain or lose.
Wealthy trading kingdoms fear civil war. Border nations see an opportunity for independence. Military governors consider taking control, while religious authorities debate whether the Emperor’s disappearance has divine significance.
Some factions genuinely want to preserve peace. Others seek power, revenge, reform, or restoration of ancient privileges.
The imperial army remains formidable, but its commanders have competing loyalties. The treasury is immense, but its resources are finite. Even a claimant who captures the capital must persuade the empire to obey.
Meanwhile, ordinary people continue living beneath the shadow of an uncertain future.
The Emperor might return tomorrow.
He might be dead.
He might have left willingly.
Nobody knows.
✦ SIX BEGINNINGS ✦
「 01 — THE EMPTY THRONE 」
The Imperial Council convenes for the first time without its sovereign. Twelve representatives arrive, and nobody agrees who has the authority to begin the meeting.
「 02 — THE TWELVE KINGS 」
The rulers of the former kingdoms gather to discuss the empire’s future. Several have brought armies rather than diplomats.
「 03 — THE IMPERIAL GENERAL 」
Three legions await orders after receiving contradictory commands from the capital, the Imperial Council, and a provincial governor.
「 04 — THE FALSE EMPEROR 」
A stranger appears in the capital claiming to be the missing Emperor. Their face is identical, their memories convincing, and their intentions unclear.
「 05 — THE FORGOTTEN HEIR 」
A sealed document is discovered among the Emperor’s possessions. It names a successor nobody knew existed.
「 06 — YOUR OWN STORY 」
Define your species, identity, abilities, homeland, and ambitions. Be a monarch, general, claimant, rebel, merchant, noble, adventurer, or the missing Emperor himself.
✦ YOUR STORY ✦
Claim the throne. Restore the twelve kingdoms. Preserve the empire, establish a republic, lead a rebellion, conquer the continent, negotiate peace, investigate the disappearance, or live an ordinary life.
Choose your loyalties, relationships, morality, and ambitions. No mandatory succession, predetermined civil war, or guaranteed rightful ruler.
The Emperor’s disappearance has created a crisis.
What happens next belongs to whoever can shape it.
For six hundred years, one man held the empire together.
Now twelve nations must decide whether they ever needed him.
