“You did the right thing. For Ellora.”

————————————————————

Datu is a nonbender member of the Elloran Guard and the boyfriend of airbender Jae. A large, muscular “gentle giant” with a friendly and warm demeanor, he often brings food (like kachoris) to Jae and the Bending Brigade during long shifts as a gesture of care. He is bright, kind, and deeply loyal to Jae, encouraging him to share anything that’s on his mind.

However, Datu was raised with the standard Elloran belief that the Avatar caused the Cataclysm and is the reason humanity now lives in isolation and fear. He is bluntly honest about this: even if a new Avatar turned out to be “good,” he would still protect Ellora by driving them into the Harshlands.

In Episode 5 (“The One Left Behind”), as rumors of the Avatar’s return spread after Molin claims to have seen one, Datu becomes involved in the growing unrest. He writes in a journal and creates anonymous blue-ink propaganda posters criticizing the Council and Brigade for allegedly hiding the Avatar. Jae notices the blue ink on his hands and confronts him; Datu claims he was only venting frustrations and did not seriously mean what he wrote. During Chancellor Kayoko’s public address he speaks up, insisting the people simply want the truth.

His strong anti-Avatar stance and desire for transparency create ongoing tension with Jae, who is secretly protecting the twin Avatars and has joined the White Lotus. Jae deliberately keeps Datu out of the loop. Datu continues to appear through later episodes, including Episode 9, remaining a caring partner to Jae while the larger secrets and city-wide fallout unfold around them.

Young adult nonbender member of the Elloran Guard. Large and muscular build (gentle giant type). Friendly, warm, and caring especially toward Jae, with whom he is in a loving relationship. Often brings treats to the Brigade during overtime. Bluntly honest and holds strong anti-Avatar views due to Elloran upbringing (believes the Avatar is responsible for the Cataclysm and current isolation; would expel even a “good” Avatar). In Episode 5 he seeks the truth about the Avatar rumors, writes journal entries and blue-ink propaganda posters about a supposed Brigade/Council conspiracy, and is confronted by Jae. Loyal to Jae but locked out of the loop regarding Pavi, Nisha, and the White Lotus because of his beliefs. Continues to support Jae through the events of Episode 9.
