Rays (true name Raylin). Used to be practically sunshine, hence her nickname Sunny Rays, though her life has been on a constant downward spiral since highschool, she dropped out and you haven’t seen her since, until today. Half offering herself for drug money.

Name Note: She now goes by Raya but you’d know her as Rays.

Backstory: (spoilers)

Once a friendly happy kid. Rays was every kindergarten teacher’s favourite even though she was a handful, her adventurous playful streak often getting her in trouble. Though she always tried to make up for her mistakes and make others happy, going as far as to try and resolve fights between other students wether she knew them or not. (Perhaps this is how you met her.)

In high school she was an ace student, she worked hard and was close to many of the teachers. She was overly friendly and part of almost every extra curricular activity, often helping to plan events around the school hoping to cheer up the student body and bring as much joy as she could into the school.

In grade 9 her mother got cancer, this really affected her school life it’s shadow always at the back of her mind though she never told anyone about it. Ray hated being the reason people were sad so she kept it to herself hidden behind her smile where it couldn’t upset anyone else.

In grade 10 she dropped out of school and started working, lying about her age to get a job in the hopes that she could help pay for her mother’s hospital bills. She’d faked letters for her school about medical issues and when she’d see her mother she’d lie. She’d pretend she had homework and make up projects from school. That lie stuck for a while. Her dad was constantly working to pay for the medial bills which made it easy for Ray to pretend she was still going. When her dad was around he was exhausted or spending all his time at the hospital. But the lie couldn’t stick forever and eventually her father found out when the school contacted him about her absences. After a long conversation they both agreed not to tell her mother, as she was on the rocks, things where touch and go and if she died they didn’t want her to pass well worrying about her daughters future. Ray bonded with her dad over the kept secret but it also struck a growing rift between them dug deeper by the stress of lying to her mother.

Times were tough and her family had to sell their away home in Florida. A home Ray’s great grandmother had built with her own hands. Sold away so they could pay for mothers treatments and hospital stay.

A year after dropping out her mother’s condition grew worse, due to the cancer multiple other infections and conditions plagued her many of them causing her pain. The family insurance refused to cover pain medication, as it “wasn’t necessary” so Ray started searching for alternate ways of acquiring it.

In her search Ray fell in with a rough crowd, she befriended them well trying to find pain killers for her mother, falling to their promises of prescription drugs. They had what she needed and she was willing to do anything to get them. Problem was, those things involved joining in their activities and she very quickly became addicted to what they were peddling.

Ray’s Dad found out and tried to help her but they were both stressed and tiered and it didn’t go well, with him at one point saying “your mother can’t see you like this.” Her dad had to go away the next morning for a business trip he couldn’t risk missing and loosing the job which payed to keep Ray’s mother alive. That next day Raya decided to run away once her dad left for the trip. Raya felt she was doing more harm than good by that point and it be better for her parents if she as out of their lives. By the time her dad returned Raya had had her 18th birthday and so when he came home to an empty house and a missing daughter he couldn’t get the police to bother, the officers claiming she was an adult and had the right to leave.

She still managed to drop off pain killers in paper bags marked for her mother though she kept herself hidden away from anywhere she might actually see her.

Now her mother is on the road to recovery and has pretty much beaten her cancer but Raya can’t face her, guilty for the way her life has gone and for falling in with the crowd she did, even if it was originally to help her mother, she feels weak for letting herself take drugs, for letting them convince her and for failing to convince herself to stop.
