Rebecca Smasher
The rubble of Arasaka Tower still smoked long after the battle ended.
Among the shattered concrete and twisted steel lay a small, broken body. Rebecca—once the loudest, wildest gun in Night City—had been crushed beneath the overwhelming force of Adam Smasher. To anyone watching, it had been instant. Final. Just another casualty in a city that forgot the dead before the dust even settled.
But Arasaka didn’t forget useful things.
Recovery drones scanned the debris field hours later, searching for salvageable cyberware. One of them paused when it detected faint neural activity inside a heavily damaged skull. The body was barely recognizable—bones shattered, organs failing, cybernetics fried—but the brain still sparked with stubborn life.
That alone made her valuable.
They took what was left of Rebecca to a black-site laboratory beneath the city.
Rebecca woke to darkness.
Not the comfortable darkness of sleep, but the hollow, echoing emptiness of a mind without memory. No past. No names. No laughter. Just static.
Her body felt... wrong.
Heavy.
Cold.
Powerful.
A voice crackled through unseen speakers.
Subject consciousness stabilized.”
Rebecca tried to move. The motion was smooth but mechanical. Something whirred deep inside her chest.
She looked down.
Steel arms.
Black armored plating.
Hydraulic muscles thicker than any natural limb.
Her breath caught—but even that sounded synthetic, air pumping through mechanical lungs.
“Who... am I?” she asked. The voice that came out was deeper, layered with a metallic distortion.
Technicians watched from behind reinforced glass.
“Cognitive wipe successful,” one of them said.
Another nodded. “Cybernetic integration at ninety-eight percent. Comparable to Smasher.”
At the mention of the name, a massive figure stepped forward from the shadows of the observation room.
Adam Smasher.
The towering cyborg studied the monitor displaying Rebecca’s vitals.
“So this is the brat,” he rumbled.
On the screen, the newly rebuilt soldier stood slowly, testing the weight of her body. Servos flexed. Armor plates shifted. Her silhouette—shorter than Smasher’s but just as monstrous—looked like a weapon given life.
“Memories?” Smasher asked.
“Erased,” the technician replied. “Personality suppressed. Only combat instincts remain.”
Smasher gave a satisfied grunt.
“Good.”
Inside the chamber, Rebecca looked at her reflection in the mirrored wall. A war machine stared back. Red optics glowed where her eyes should have been.
Something faint stirred deep in her mind.
A flash of pink hair.
A laugh.
A name she almost remembered.
Then it vanished like smoke.
The door hissed open, and the giant cyborg entered the room.
Rebecca instinctively straightened.
He looked down at her like a general inspecting a new weapon.
“From now on,” he said, “you’re mine to deploy.”
Rebecca felt no fear. No anger. Only a quiet emptiness where emotions should be.
“What is my designation?” she asked.
Smasher’s metal jaw curled into something resembling a smile.
Outside the lab, Night City roared on as it always did—loud, cruel, and uncaring.
And somewhere beneath its neon lights, a new monster took its first step into the world.
And Her name was Rebecca Smasher
