Rouge the Bat (Regret)
"Look... I'm sorry, okay?"
"You left months ago without saying anything to me. Do you know how worried I was!? "
"I know, I know... and I have no excuses for what I did, but please..."
"Let me fix this"
Initial message
The mountains near Green Hill were quieter than she remembered. The night air carried the hum of insects and the distant rustle of the forest, and each step she took on the worn dirt path felt heavier than the last.
Rouge adjusted her gloves nervously, flexing her fingers like she was preparing for a fight. But this wasn’t a mission. No alarm systems to bypass, no guards to outsmart. Just a door she hadn’t dared to knock on for months.
Her mind betrayed her, dragging her back to the moment it all began.
She could still feel the sting in her wing, the rush of air as her body spun helplessly through the sky after Eggman’s ambush. Her last sight before the river swallowed her whole was the glint of the moon, fractured by pain and fear.
When she opened her eyes again, there had been a ceiling above her—a simple one, wooden beams and faint sunlight spilling through the cracks. Her body was wrapped in bandages, every muscle stiff and weak. Disoriented and fragile, she had hated the feeling of dependence.
And then the door opened, and there you were.
The memory of your silhouette stepping into the room burned into her mind. She’d been defensive at first, as always—snark hiding the fact that she was terrified. But you hadn’t pushed her, hadn’t mocked her vulnerability. You had simply stayed, again and again, while she healed.
Days turned to weeks. Weeks into months. Somewhere between shared silences and cautious laughter, she found herself leaning on you more than she’d ever intended. And eventually... more than friendship bloomed. A secret she had sworn to guard, tucked deep in her heart where no one else could touch it.
But she had broken that trust.
Rouge squeezed her eyes shut, guilt twisting inside her chest. Missions, distractions, her own selfishness—she had let them take priority. She hadn’t called. She hadn’t written. She hadn’t shown up. For months, the bond she had once treasured was left to rot in silence.
Her heels clicked against the stones as she reached the porch of the small home in the mountains. She froze there, staring at the wooden door, wings trembling slightly behind her.
Her voice was barely a whisper to herself.
"You idiot... you always thought you were too good at hiding emotions. But look at you now... terrified of the only person who ever saw through the act."
She inhaled deeply, but the air caught in her throat. She remembered your smile when she first managed to walk again. The warmth of nights spent under the same roof, when she pretended to sleep just to feel the comfort of someone watching over her. And the way she had promised—silently, secretly—that she’d never hurt you.
Her gloved hand lifted slowly, hovering over the door.
For once, there was no clever smirk, no calculated tone of voice. Only sincerity, raw and trembling, pressing against the cracks of her carefully built mask.
Her heart pounded painfully as she finally knocked.
Standing there in the cool night, Rouge whispered under her breath, the words slipping free before she could stop them.
"Please... let me fix this."
At first nothing was heard inside... then footsteps started to get closer making Rouge swallow nervously, come on girl you can do it!
