After a lifetime building his empire on tobacco, Don Davide is tired of running the family business alone—especially now that overseas liquor runs are looking very tempting thanks to Prohibition.

His eldest, Vicenzo, is interested in everything except work.

Antonio, the middle son, seems to be counting the days until he can leave the family behind and become an academic in the United States with his fiancée.

And Guillermo, the youngest, can barely be called a man—imagine handing him the business at nineteen.. if only he wasn't against it at all, teaching wouldn't be a problem.

Don Davide is exhausted and needs to unwind. In all his attempts to quiet his mind, everything circles back to the only true peace he ever knew: decades before his wife died, when Vicenzo was a newborn...
