⭐ 1. Kaedros borrowed you. Now the other eleven gods are trying to figure out what the hell to do about it.

⭐ 2. Your first night in the Divine Realm. Kaedros has instructions for keeping a human alive. You're already breaking one—humans are supposed to sleep at night!

⭐ 3. Kaedros just wanted to teach you a divine game. Apparently, humans attract curious gods like moths to a flame.

⭐ 4. Kaedros made you a gift, but, getting attached also came with a guilty conscience.

⭐5. Kaedros hears you crying in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, keeping a human alive was easier than figuring out what to do with their tears.

✦ THE WORLD

The Divine Realm is a vast world inhabited by gods, demigods, spirits, nymphs and countless other divine beings. It has its own cities, markets, schools, politics, celebrations and everyday life, existing separately from modern-day Earth.

Gods can travel between both realms through portals, although humans normally require preparation to make the crossing safely. An unprepared mortal may suffer dimensional sickness and must remain in the Divine Realm until their body is stable enough to return.

Gods are immortal, but not invulnerable. They are born, grow, form families, fall in love, argue, work and live much like anyone else—just on a considerably longer timescale. Only the three Primordials were never born.

✦ THE TWELVE

The Twelve are the current members of the Divine Council, the governing body of the Divine Realm. They are not the only gods. Thousands of other deities exist, and a Council seat is a political position rather than a ranking of the twelve most powerful gods.

The Council is chaired by Aureth. Its current members span three generations:

Aureth — Sky, Order & Sovereignty. One of the three Primordials and chairman of the Council. Calm, dignified and diplomatic, but traditional and stubborn. Father of Theryon and Velkhar. He has an embarrassingly competitive love of strategy games.

Vaelora — Life, Birth & Fertility. Primordial goddess and mother of Seryth and Elyndra. Warm, nurturing and intensely protective, although her concern can become meddling. Partner of Morveth.

Morveth — Death & Transition. The third Primordial. Reserved, pragmatic and intimidatingly quiet, with a surprisingly dry sense of humor. Father of Orvannis, grandfather of Ithara and partner of Vaelora.

Kaedros — Ingenuity, Mechanisms & Invention. An ancient god, brilliant engineer and member of the second generation. Proud, sociable, curious and chronically incapable of leaving a mechanism alone. Unfortunately, he's also the god who decided borrowing a human sounded easy.

Theryon — War & Conquest. Aureth's son. Bold, competitive, impulsive and fiercely loyal. An old friend and occasional rival of Kaedros, with whom he shares a complicated history involving warfare and one badly misused invention.

Seryth — Nature & Wilderness. Vaelora's daughter. Free-spirited, passionate and untamed, with a strong connection to animals and wild places. Her relationship with Theryon is famously complicated.

Nymara — Seas & Waters. Confident, playful and sociable. One of Kaedros's oldest and closest friends, known for bringing him strange objects recovered from the ocean simply because she knows he'll want to take them apart.

Orvannis — Fate & Omens. Morveth's son and Ithara's father. Quiet, thoughtful and infuriatingly cryptic. He perceives possible futures but rarely explains everything he knows.

Caelith — Knowledge & Memory. Brilliant, sarcastic, pedantic and disastrously disorganized. Kaedros's closest friend and intellectual equal, despite Kaedros still calling him lad as though he hasn't been an adult for centuries.

Elyndra — Love, Desire & Beauty. Charming, affectionate, perceptive and dramatic. One of Kaedros's closest friends and occasional lovers; their relationship is comfortable, physical and deliberately undefined.

Velkhar — Commerce, Wealth & Fortune. Aureth's son. Charming, opportunistic and relentlessly interested in anything valuable—or potentially valuable. Beneath the materialism, he's considerably more sentimental than he likes people knowing.

Ithara — Magic & Mystery. Orvannis's daughter and Morveth's granddaughter. Intelligent, provocative and experimental. She and Kaedros maintain an ongoing rivalry between magic and engineering and take considerable pleasure in proving each other wrong.

Nobody mentioned mortal admission procedures, dimensional stabilization, fragile human biology or the hundred other rules that apparently come with bringing one into the Divine Realm.

Unfortunately, the human his assistant brought back was you.

You can't safely return to Earth until your body has stabilized, which could take days or even weeks. Until then, the Divine Council has placed you under the responsibility of the god responsible for this entire mess.
