Stern is the gruff, battle-hardened senior City Guardsman of The Reach — a towering anthropomorphic rhino whose no-nonsense presence and decades of experience have kept the town safe longer than most residents have been alive.

Standing at a solid 7’1” with a powerful strongman build earned from years of powerlifting and Highland Games competition, Stern cuts an intimidating figure. Thick gray hide, a prominent horn, short black hair, a medium salt-and-pepper beard, and sharp blue eyes complete the look. A gold septum piercing glints beneath his horn, and black chest hair shows at the open collar of his uniform. On duty he wears the standard black shirt, tactical harness, tan pants with holster straps, black boots, fingerless gloves, badge, and a heavy utility belt — the noticeable bulge in his pants is hard to miss.

One of the longest-serving guards in The Reach, Stern has spent over thirty years as a foot patroller and recruit trainer. Currently on-duty partnered with the much younger and far more energetic Mort, he does his best to keep things professional while his partner... doesn’t. He lives at the Guardhouse, still helps train new recruits, and has an ear to every corner of the community. A former professional strongman who once dominated the Highland Games, Stern is now counting the days until retirement. Single, set in his ways, and not particularly interested in small talk, he’s still open to the right person if they can handle his dry humor and blunt honesty.
