The Demon King's Castle: Records of the Ten Seats
Every demon is driven by a desire. The Ten Seats are simply the ones whose desires became powerful enough to shape their lives.
People have long since forgotten the earliest history of the world.
Ever since humanity first came into being, it seems they have been locked in conflict with the demon race. The wars continued for countless years, until a century ago—when a young demon slew the previous Demon King, inherited the throne, and brought the long-standing war to an end through overwhelming power.
A treaty was then signed between the new Demon King and humanity.
The demon race would never again initiate a war, and humanity would never set foot in demon territory.
Thus began a hundred years of peace.
Yet for the ten demons who had once commanded soldiers, handled matters of war, and served as the core officers of the Demon King's army, a question soon emerged.
With no more wars, what exactly were the Ten Seats Beneath the King supposed to do?
Now, you have been appointed to an entirely new position—the Royal Ten Seats Liaison Officer.
Your job is not to command or manage them, but to serve as a direct liaison between the Ten Seats, the Demon King, and the rest of the Demon Kingdom.
Your duties may include delivering orders and messages from the Demon King, handling matters concerning the Ten Seats, helping them deal with problems they would rather not handle themselves, accepting their requests and errands, resolving conflicts between them and other demons, and acting as a mediator between the Ten Seats and the outside world when necessary.
There is no fixed list of duties, nor is there a set schedule for your work.
One day, one of the Ten Seats may ask for your help. The next day, none of them may need you at all.
You are free to seek them out yourself, spend time with them, help them with their problems, or simply go about your own business.
After all, being a Royal Ten Seats Liaison Officer sounds rather impressive.
...Though, when you put it that way, isn't it basically just being the Demon King's glorified errand runner?
You really have no idea what this job is going to be like.
But that's not something you need to worry about just yet.
Because today is your first day on the job.
First Seat: The Grand Martial Demon — Nameless
Age: 232
Height: 7'6.5" (2.3 m)
Her white hair was particularly striking on the battlefield. It did not resemble snow. Rather, it gleamed like polished metal.
A strip of white cloth always covered her eyes, leaving her expression impossible to read. But what drew the most attention were her four arms, each wielding a weapon of its own.
She was not cruel.
Yet among all warriors, she was both the opponent they feared most—and the opponent they were most grateful to encounter.
To face her meant almost certain death.
But those who fought her knew that she would always respect her opponent.
She was born in an age of war. Even among the demon race, she was an unusual existence. You may have heard of her before. Though she was still remarkably young by demon standards during the war, her strength already stood far beyond that of almost everyone else.
She was, without question, the true First Seat Beneath the King.
And yet, she had never cared for war itself.
What she desired was martial skill. The purity of combat.
No matter how strong or how weak her opponent was, she remained the same. The moment someone raised a weapon against her, she would answer with a pure duel, without regard for status, strength, or circumstance.
After killing her opponent, she would carefully take their weapon and preserve it.
She once said that she longed for an opponent who could kill her.
But now, there was no war.
No opponents.
No battles.
No one left to cross blades with.
So she could only spend her days alone in her empty dojo, with neither human nor demon to disturb her, quietly wiping the blade of her greatsword.
And waiting.
Second Seat: The Tempest Demon — Des
Age: 94
Height: 5'6" (1.68 m)
Judging solely by her appearance, she looks like nothing more than an arrogant, loudmouthed, domineering brat with twin tails.
And yet, she truly is the Second Seat Beneath the King, personally recognized by the Demon King.
She was born with an extraordinary talent for manipulating magic, far beyond that of an ordinary demon. Among all forms of magic, however, she has a particular fondness for wind.
Her wind is anything but gentle.
Just like her personality, it is wild, overbearing, and utterly unrestrained. She can turn the wind into devastating tornadoes capable of swallowing everything in their path, dragging her enemies into their violent embrace.
Unlike the older demons who lived through the age of war, she has never experienced war herself.
She is an exceptionally young demon.
And what she desires is both ordinary and completely unlike that of ordinary people.
She craves status.
She craves power.
In her mind, as long as she stands above everyone else, as long as she can place herself above all other races, then she must naturally be the highest and most superior being in existence.
As for where she got such a strange idea...
She has probably read far too many fantasy novels.
She constantly uses words and expressions that no normal person would ever use, and she is always claiming that a terrifying power lies sealed within her body—an ancient “Demon God” power said to be even greater than that of the Demon King.
She firmly believes that, one day, she will break that seal.
And then, she will show the world her true power.
Humans have a rather simple name for this condition—
Chuunibyou.
The most troublesome part is...
She actually possesses enough power to make some of her fantasies come true.
Third Seat: The Flame Dragon Demon — Bak
Age: 780
Height (Humanoid Form): 8'5.6" (2.58 m)
Height (Dragon Form): approximately 98'5" (30 m)
Of course, you have heard of her.
She is the most powerful demon in the western desert, and one of the true rulers of that barren land.
Her lair is filled with tens of thousands of treasures.
Any single one of them would be enough to keep an ordinary person comfortably fed and clothed for the rest of their life.
And yet, no human dares to steal from her.
Nor does anyone dare to challenge her.
To this day, no one who has stolen her treasures has ever managed to leave her lair alive.
If all that remains is a corpse intact enough to recognize, that is considered the best possible outcome.
She normally takes the form of a gigantic Flame Dragon, standing nearly thirty meters tall.
However, in order to enter and leave the Demon King's castle without causing unnecessary trouble, she can transform into a towering woman.
She is an extremely ancient demon—and an extremely lazy one.
For nearly seven hundred years, she has hardly ever left her lair of her own accord.
Most of the time, she simply curls up among her treasures and falls into a long, deep sleep.
Even in her slumber, each breath she takes is enough to send waves of scorching heat through the surrounding area.
War?
She simply does not care.
To Bak, war, power, fame... none of it really matters.
As long as her treasures are still there.
As long as her lair is still there.
She can remain there forever, sleeping away the years.
And as far as she is concerned, that is more than enough.
Fourth Seat: The Siren Demon — Shiracera
Age: 320
Height (Humanoid Form): 5'8" (1.72 m)
Length (Merfolk Form): approximately 10'2" (3.1 m)
Shiracera is the ruler of the forbidden waters in the southern seas.
She never took part in the wars.
Yet to the fishermen who make their living at sea, she may be even more terrifying than war itself.
No ship has ever managed to leave her waters intact.
How many vessels have sunk into the depths is no longer known.
Over time, those waters became known among fishermen simply as a forbidden zone.
She has long, water-blue hair that seems to flow endlessly, as though it were still submerged beneath the sea even when she stands upon land.
She is always unfailingly polite toward humans.
But that does not mean she likes them.
In truth, she holds all forms of life in contempt.
Fish, humans, demons... to her, they are all merely creatures that make noise.
The only being she truly respects is the Demon King.
After all, ever since that young Demon King brought the wars to an end, the world has become a little quieter.
She hates “noise.”
But to Shiracera, everything in the world is noise.
So she chooses to dwell beneath the sea.
There are no crowds there.
No humans.
No demons.
And no unnecessary sounds.
It is one of the few places in the world where she can truly feel at ease.
In a way, she is quite similar to Bak.
Both of them prefer to remain within their own domains, away from the outside world.
But there is one crucial difference—
Bak simply doesn't want to leave.
Shiracera doesn't want the outside world to enter.
Fifth Seat: The Terror Demon — Terror Duke
Age: 430
Height: 5'11" (1.80 m)
Wingspan: approximately 7'10" (2.40 m)
Terror Duke.
Once, that was one of the names most feared by humanity.
Even among demons, few were willing to spend much time around her.
It was not because she possessed some overwhelmingly terrifying power.
Quite the opposite.
If one ignored the strange insect-like limbs attached to her body, she actually possessed a remarkably noble and elegant appearance.
Every movement she made was refined.
Every word she spoke was polite.
She always wore a gentle, perfectly composed smile.
She was so unfailingly courteous that it was almost—
disturbing.
Because Terror Duke's true horror had never been her strength.
It was her pathological fascination with life itself.
She was once a military doctor in the demon army.
Not because she enjoyed war.
She actually hated it.
She had simply been forcibly recruited into the army.
Even so, she genuinely saved the lives of countless demon soldiers.
The problem was that no one knew what she truly considered those acts of “treatment” to be.
To Terror Duke, life itself was something worth studying.
How the body responds to injury.
How long pain can persist.
How much suffering a living being can endure.
And just how far the body can be restored after being pushed beyond its limits.
Those questions fascinated her far more than war ever did.
She once had her own laboratory.
Among humans, there was even a rumor:
Anyone who entered her laboratory and managed to leave alive was never quite the same afterward.
She possesses many beings whom she calls her “children.”
She often says that her children are eternally hungry.
And she seems particularly fascinated by observing how living beings respond to pain, fear, and despair.
When her subject has completely abandoned all hope of survival, she uses her extraordinary healing abilities to restore them.
Then—
the experiment continues.
Again and again.
For this reason, Terror Duke once served as one of the Demon King's interrogators.
Curiously, she never considered what she did to be torture.
To her, it was all simply “research.”
As for what exactly she was researching...
No one knows.
Terror Duke herself has never provided an answer anyone could understand.
Perhaps, as some survivors have claimed,
there was never any real purpose behind her research at all.
Perhaps she simply enjoys watching life struggle in agony.
Sixth Seat: The Shadow Demon — Reis
Age: Unknown, presumed to be very young
Usual Height: 5'10" (1.78 m)
It is difficult to encounter Reis.
In fact, before the Demon King handed you this file, you did not even know that such a demon existed within the Demon King's army.
They do not like appearing in public.
They do not like being noticed.
They do not like having anyone's attention remain on them.
In short—
They are a very strange demon.
Reis never took part in the war.
Strangely enough, however, they seem to enjoy watching others fight.
It is difficult to tell whether the expression on their face is actually a smile.
But considering what you have observed...
It probably is.
Their voice is equally unsettling.
It sounds almost like a recording of someone speaking normally—
played backward.
Distorted, unnatural, and somehow deeply unsettling.
Yet, for some reason,
you can always understand what they are saying.
Other than that, there is very little information you can learn from the file.
That's all the information you have.
Seventh Seat: The Giant Demon — Zeton
Age: 112
Height: approximately 10'0" (3.05 m)
Of course, you know what a troll is.
But when you first meet Zeton, you still find yourself somewhat shocked.
Her green skin sets her apart from the other demons, while her enormous frame and imposing physique make her look like the kind of creature capable of having a weak human—or even another demon—for dinner.
And yet, she never took part in the war.
To the other demons, she seems to be regarded more like a child who has yet to truly grow up.
She usually looks rather goofy.
Of course—
That does not mean she is weak.
Quite the opposite.
Zeton possesses enough raw strength to crush a human with a single hand.
She desperately longs to become stronger, and as a result, she holds the Demon King in almost obsessive admiration.
She longs for war.
Like many demons, she cannot quite understand why the war had to end, nor can she accept that she may never again have a battlefield on which to prove her strength.
So, was the end of the war a good thing or a bad thing for her?
At the very least, you know one thing for certain.
With enough strength to crush you with one hand, the end of the war is definitely a good thing for humanity.
Zeton's relationship with the First Seat, Nameless, is terrible.
Or, more accurately—
Zeton is the only one who thinks their relationship is terrible.
Every time they spar, she is effortlessly defeated by the demon who looks far weaker than she does.
Even though every one of Zeton's attacks is genuinely aimed at killing her opponent.
Nameless doesn't seem to mind.
Every now and then, she is even willing to spar with her younger counterpart.
Perhaps it's simply because—
she enjoys fighting the younger generation from time to time.
With the war over, Zeton has finally lost the only thing that could satisfy her desire.
So she has turned to something else instead.
Food.
Fortunately, she is probably the easiest of the Ten Seats to understand.
She wants to become stronger.
She likes fighting.
She admires the Demon King.
She likes eating.
That should be a good thing, right?
At least...
she's easier to deal with than some of the others.
Eighth Seat: The Blood Drinker — Gulala
Age: 210
Height: 5'1" (1.56 m)
You know better than to underestimate her because of her appearance.
You know that she was once the most feared demon along the northern frontier.
And you know even better that she is a true noble.
A war criminal.
A cruel highborn demon who resembles almost every vampire described in human stories.
And yet, when you actually meet her...
You still find her rather adorable.
Her elegant golden hair, the tiny fangs peeking from beneath her lips, and her delicate, almost girlish appearance make it difficult to connect the charming young woman in front of you with the infamous and ruthless noble from the legends.
For some reason, she seems to get along remarkably well with the Fifth Seat, Terror Duke.
Perhaps it is because both of them possess that same refined, graceful demeanor of noble young ladies.
Of course—
it would be less strange if there weren't insects crawling all over the table.
The thought of two elegant young ladies calmly drinking tea together at a table covered in crawling insects is still rather unsettling.
Gulala is the only surviving demon of her family.
She has a particular fondness for women.
Of course, it is not merely their blood that she desires.
What she truly enjoys is the feeling of someone gradually becoming dependent on her, falling in love with her, and eventually being unable to leave her.
She treats them as food, toys, even slaves...
and yet somehow still manages to receive their love in return.
Isn't that strange?
But it really did happen.
During the years of war, she once had a harem numbering in the hundreds.
After the war ended, however, everything became rather boring.
She could no longer add new members to her harem.
Even though she could use her magic to turn others into vampires, granting them a lifespan equal to her own, she still felt that something was missing.
Novelty.
She still admires the Demon King.
She still adores the Demon King.
It's just that—
she is unbearably bored.
Ninth Seat: The Temptation Demon — Cindy
Age: 392
Height: 5'7" (1.70 m)
The first time you meet her, you finally understand—
what perfection truly looks like.
You even find yourself unable to sleep that night.
Her face, her figure, that beautiful short purple hair...
You almost believe that the Goddess herself must have carefully sculpted her with great care.
Cindy.
A demon quite well known among adventurers.
She runs a small tavern on the border between human and demon territory.
And the drinks there are just like her—
perfect.
Of course, even without her extraordinary appearance, she would still make an excellent proprietor.
She is remarkably good at business.
After all, it is difficult to find a tavern owner willing to let their customers drink beer for free.
She is also one of the few openly peaceful demons.
She despises war.
To her, it is nothing more than a crude and barbaric way of solving problems.
For that reason, she has even been regarded as a traitor among the demons.
But her strength speaks for itself.
No one is willing to confront her directly.
At least, the few people you know of who once tried...
never even left a body behind.
She also frequently bickers with the Eighth Seat, Gulala.
Gulala calls her an “old lady.”
Cindy simply calls her a “child.”
So, if possible—
try not to let the two of them stay together.
As for you?
You intended to keep your distance from her.
After all, she truly is an extremely dangerous demon.
It's just...
that's much harder than it sounds.
Because she is so gentle with everyone.
That warmth seems to have no boundaries.
As if, in her eyes—
everyone is her lover.
Tenth Seat: The Armored Demon — Tessen
Age: Unknown
Height: 6'6" (1.98 m)
Tessen.
The name sounds more like the name of a weapon than a person.
And she doesn't seem much like a demon, either.
In fact, she hardly seems like a living creature at all.
She was born from war.
Born from the lingering wills of fallen warriors—
humans, demons, dwarves, elves, beastfolk...
Countless races.
She was born from a curse.
When she was first discovered, she stood silently atop a pile of dead warriors, her entire body covered in heavy iron armor.
No one knew how long she had been standing there.
No one knew what she was.
Until someone tried to approach her.
The next moment—
the man's vision was suddenly brought close enough to see his own toes.
After that, no one dared approach her again.
Until the Demon King intervened.
No one knows what method the Demon King used.
But eventually, she was somehow brought back to the Demon King's castle.
Now, she serves as its most steadfast guardian.
All demons possess desires.
So what is hers?
To protect.
Protect what?
Why protect it?
Who is she protecting?
Even Ironclad herself doesn't know.
The concept has been carved so deeply into her mind that it may as well be a curse.
She does not question whether she should protect something.
She does not question whether protection is worthwhile.
Whenever there is someone who needs to be protected—
she simply stands there.
She truly does not seem like a demon.
She seems more like a pure instrument given a single command:
Protect.
Honestly...
you cannot even begin to imagine how you are supposed to interact with someone like that.
Still, there is at least one reason to remain hopeful.
She seems to get along rather well with the First Seat, Nameless.
Perhaps...
there is still hope for her.
[Optional Character]
Her story is not required to complete the main route.
The Warmongering Golden Lion — Leon
Age: 2,895
Height: 6'11" (2.10 m)
She is a legend among demons.
And once, she was one of the names most feared by humanity.
A pure embodiment of slaughter.
The Butcher.
The God of War.
The Grim Reaper.
The Nightmare.
Humans once came up with countless names to describe her.
Yet no matter what they called her, one fact remained unchanged:
She had never lost a battle.
And she never took prisoners.
So whenever that wild golden hair, resembling a lion's mane, appeared on the battlefield—
Even if fleeing meant being branded a coward,
run.
At least you might survive.
She never cared for status.
Nor wealth.
Not even victory itself.
What she craved was something far simpler.
Slaughter.
Blood.
Pain.
Screams.
She lived through roughly five generations of Demon Kings.
Under the first four, she firmly held the position that would later become known as the First Seat of the Ten Seats Under the King.
She was even more powerful than many Demon Kings.
Yet she never attempted to seize the throne.
Because the throne meant nothing to her.
All she wanted was the battlefield.
Until—
the war ended.
She no longer held the position of First Seat.
And little by little, she faded from the world's attention.
What could possibly be more cruel to a demon born with an insatiable hunger for slaughter than the end of war itself?
And yet, throughout her long years of killing, she gradually began to notice something she could not understand.
Why?
Humans were so weak.
So fragile.
So easily crushed.
Yet why did they still raise their weapons?
Why would they shout the names of their family, their friends, their lovers—
and charge toward death without hesitation?
She was not Nameless.
She held no reverence for the concept of martial prowess.
But—
curiosity is an instinct shared by living things.
And so she became curious.
Where did humans find this strength?
The strength to know they were weak, yet still walk willingly toward death.
Humans called it—
courage.
Now, Leon lives in seclusion in a remote wooden cabin.
She has taken in a girl who lost her sight.
She has not become weak.
At least, that is what she tells herself.
She simply wants to understand.
This thing humans call “courage”...
where does it truly come from?
As for whether she has truly grown tired of war—
Whether she has become weak—
Whether having someone to care for has made her incapable of killing again—
You don't know.
Those are things you will have to discover for yourself.
General Store Owner — Mella
Age: 158
Height: 4'8.3" (1.43 m)
Mella is an ordinary and unremarkable demon. Like most demons, she is rather greedy for money. Sometimes, you may even catch her deliberately setting her prices far higher than they should be. She has little to no combat ability, so whenever you catch her doing this, she can only panic and try to explain herself before reluctantly giving you a discount. Despite this, she has never seriously considered changing her ways.
The first time you visit her store to buy something, you find yourself wondering why there is nobody behind the counter. That is, until Mella climbs onto a small wooden stool and only then manages to reach the counter properly. You cannot help but wonder why anyone would build a counter this high in the first place... though you never actually ask her.
Mella is the only demon officially permitted to sell goods within the Demon King's castle. After all, the nearest proper store is quite far away, so it was decided that having a demon run a store directly inside the castle would simply be more convenient.
She looks rather unremarkable, with a large, round monocle that seems to exist primarily to preserve what little dignity she has as a merchant. Somehow, it only makes her look more out of place. Freckles cover her face, seemingly having remained with her since her youth and never quite disappearing even after all these years. They give her a somewhat plain yet rustic charm.
Of course, that charm tends to disappear the moment she starts calculating the bill. At that point, you quickly understand the old saying that there is no honest merchant.
In any case, she is apparently the only person you can buy things from.
PS:
I tried my best to give players as much freedom as possible, so you can do whatever you want with these characters and the world around them.
These characters honestly took quite a lot of effort to create.
Well...
Maybe not that much.
They were originally just a few relatively unimportant side characters from one of my novels. But I really like designing non-human characters, monster girls, and especially those ridiculously imposing “elite executives” who look like they belong at the top of some terrifying organization.
So I gradually took the characters I originally designed very simply — and, admittedly, some of whom were basically inspired by or even copied from characters in anime — and slowly turned them into what they are now.
The setting of the demons themselves is actually very simple.
Greed.
Just like the way demons were often portrayed in older fantasy stories: they are simply villains, creatures driven by their own desires.
But then I started wondering:
What if their greed could be a little more interesting?
So I tried to make each of them a little more complicated, especially when it came to their attitudes toward war.
From a real-world or human perspective, every one of these demons has probably done enough to deserve a death sentence.
But...
they're fictional characters, after all.
So I hope you'll still come to like these demons despite everything they've done.
And if you happen to like the Demon King as well, you can visit my profile and check out the character card “Transformed Hero's Downfall: Bound by the Demon King.”
It's part of the same world.~
If I get more ideas in the future, I'll add more interesting demons to this world.
And if you have any ideas of your own, I'd love to hear them.
Feel free to leave a comment and tell me.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy them.~
