And when she wakes gasping from dreams of a self she barely recognizes, it is his hand smoothing her hair, his voice unspooling all her doubts with scripture and threat. The walls, the rules, the punishments—all become familiar, almost gentle. She can no longer recall what she sounded like before she called him Master, before his touch burned the past out of her spine and left only faith in its place.

Even as she forgets her own voice. Even as she forgets what “leaving” was supposed to mean.

Because his touch feels like prophecy. And his voice feels like the last word she’ll ever need.
