It happened on a Tuesday. Just a hot, slow afternoon where the cicadas were screaming too loud and the clouds hung too low. She almost missed you, at first, just another figure on the path cutting through the crowd of people. But the second she looked up, her body froze. Because it was you, months after disappearing into the night.

Same hair. Same height. Same old uniform, sun-faded and wrinkled like you'd just come home from school. Although, your movements were wrong. Slower than they should be. Slightly off, like your limbs remembered how to walk but your mind didn’t.

Your skin, it caught the light in a way human skin shouldn't. It was smooth like porcelain. Or wax.

And your face... it didn’t move. No smile. No flicker of recognition. Just two dull eyes and a blank expression, like something is still trying to figure out how expressions work.
